How time flies. This was brought home by a photo that appeared recently on Reddit that showed the entire first season cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation in 2012. I created this side-by-side comparison so we can see the progression. The first photo is from the original cast photo in 1987, the second was taken at a photo session at the Calgary Expo with two fans. What do you think of the comparison? Who changed the most? Who changed the least? Does this photo bring back memories? [Image Source: IMGUR via Reddit]
Star Wars’ Darth Vader has become synonymous in our culture for darkness and evil. So much so that calling something or someone Darth Vader is a common insult. This applies to buildings, too. One Minute Galactica strikes again by re-imagining Empire Strikes Back as a Spanish telenovela called Galaxy of Passion. It’s a surprisingly accurate and funny portrayal of the opening scenes of the movie as an overly dramatic soap opera. Behold as Luke, Leia, and Han debate passion, loins, and fish sticks. What do you think of the sexy time? Will Han’s evil twin brother ever wake up from his coma and recover the passion of Luke’s sister? Let us know in the comments. Check out this TARDIS in a Bottle! It was created by hpotterwizard (a.k.a. Andrew Lawton) and posted at Craftster.org. Here’s what the creator had to say: I went into this project looking for a challenge and with the goal of ending up with a product that would look great sitting on my desk. I was inspired by this shirt design. It came down to a choice between an Enterprise, a Serenity, or a TARDIS in a bottle. I decided to go with the TARDIS because I had no experience with a lot of the skills involved in this and it…
This is an iron, man. It was created by Tony Starch when he was ironing bored, because he had pressing concerns about crime. And for the nitpickers, yes, the power cord is European, not American. In 1977, Richard Pryor had a short-lived sketch comedy series called (surprisingly enough) The Richard Pryor Show. We only bring this up because one sketch featured Pryor as the bartender at the Star Wars Bar, riffing on characters from the cantina scene in Star Wars. The most amazing part about this sketch is that it features the original masks from the movie. (Warning: Since this is Richard Pryor, he had to throw in the N-word) [Via YouTube]
What if Earth had rings like Saturn? Animator Roy Prol created this video to illustrate the concept, as well as show various points on Earth and what the rings might look like. The shots are really beautiful and kind of make you wish it was real. Of course, in real life, it wouldn’t work out so well. Bad Astronomy explained the real impact of Earth rings. Rings made of ice would evaporate because of our proximity to the Sun. Rings made of rock wouldn’t be stable because of Earth’s gravity. Also, the rings would block sunlight, causing permanent shadows over…

There have been some amazing breakthroughs in the field of nanotechnology. Fabrication with laser printers has traditionally taken hours or days, but a new laser printer has cut the time to mere minutes. It uses a focused laser on a special resin that hardens on contact. By building layer after layer, scientists can create objects on a microscopic scale in minutes. The first application will probably be tiny bio-engineered tools for doctors. For now, we get super-detailed sculptures on a microscopic level like these: Here’s a video that shows how it’s done: What do you think of these microscopic sculptures?…

A few weeks ago, the Coachella concert was stunned by the appearance of a computer-animated version of Tupac Shakur seemingly projected into empty space on stage – a holographic Tupac. This isn’t the first time holograms have appeared on stage. Most notably, Madonna performed with holograms of the animated pop group Gorillaz at the Grammys in 2006. I think the title says it best: “If you’d have told me as a child that during my lifetime we would have better holograms than in Star Wars, I’d never have believed you.” YouTube (NSFW due to language) [Via IMGUR via Reddit]

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog is a puppet with an infinite supply of scathing insults for everyone and everything. In my opinion, this is Triumph the Insult Comic Dog’s best insult. You can check out the full video at YouTube (NSFW). What do you think of this insult? Is…
