I will once and for all end my misspelling of the word “emperor” with this post. I used to be an awesome speller. But, once we added spell-checking software into everything we use I got lazy. My spelling is pretty bad now. My most egregious spelling error has been the word “emperor.” I use it all the time thanks to Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars. I misspell it every time. I’ve gotten called out in two highly popular posts I’ve written. The first time was my post about David Prowse being banned from LucasFilm Star Wars conventions a year ago.…

There are a lot of unfounded fears about vaccines these days, but here are five really dangerous vaccines that have appeared in movies and television you may want to avoid. According to a report in Arizona Republic thousands of Arizona schoolchildren skipped their recommended vaccines during the 2010-11 school year. If more than ten percent of the population is unvaccinated we’re all in big trouble. These people are cranks and wackos. But, it wouldn’t have been a bad idea to have some of these nutballs around to stop the following vaccinations. 4. Star Trek (2009) In the movie Star Trek 2009 McCoy…

Remember that scene in Star Wars – Episode One: The Phantom Menace when Darth Maul got cut in half and fell down a shaft? Well, it turns out he “got better.” According to SlashFilm, he’s coming back to life in the Clone Wars animated series. The idea to bring back Maul came, unsurprisingly, from George Lucas. Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni addresses some obvious issues, or suggests what the show will begin to address when the character returns in Spring 2012: “First of all, how does he survive getting cut in half? Wonder what Chynna Phillips was doing before getting voted off Dancing With The Stars? Check out the trailer for the teen sex comedy called The Invisible Kid (1998). I vaguely remember this film starring Jay Underwood as a teenager who “accidentally” invents an invisibility potion. The main point of the film seemed to be that the guy becomes a stalker spying on women. Hilarious! The trailer shows Chynna in several compromising positions including in her underwear. But, to be fair, there are a lot of scenes of guys in their boxers too, so it balances out. What do you think of Chynna’s…

There are some new on-set images of the Superman costume for The Man of Steel online and I’m going to do a quick analysis to show the changes. I can summarize it by saying it’s ridiculous. He looks like a “Power Ranger.” It’s a pretty drastic shift from the traditional costume and most of the changes are unnecessary. For reference, here’s the new costume next to the traditional costume from the 1980s Superman films. This costume became the standard after the first film. Colors The blue and red colors are there, but darker and muted. Cape The length and shape…

“The Wedding of River Song” (Season 6, Episode 13) was a satisfying end to a mediocre season, but at least it wrapped things up nicely. The ending of the sixth season was a bitter-sweet moment. No cool new villains were introduced like the “Weeping Angels.” The Silence were alright in that you couldn’t remember them after you saw them and you had to have a mark on the arm. We could lose science-fiction forever if the genre leaves network television, and it’s almost gone. Science-fiction used to be the staple of broadcast television. Think of classic shows like Star Trek, Twilight Zone, X-Files and Six Million Dollar Man. They all started on channels like CBS, NBC and FOX. As the new fall season starts, I can’t help noticing that the number of science-fiction shows is dwindling in general, but are shrinking dramatically on network TV. The number of television shows on network TV returning stands at about two: Chuck and Fringe. There are a handful of other shows that might be…
