Spider-Noir Release Date, Cast, and Everything We Know So Far

Prime Video has officially dropped the full trailer for Spider-Noir, offering fans their most detailed look yet at the gritty Marvel series starring Nicolas Cage. Set in a shadowy 1930s New York, the show reimagines Spider-Man as a hard-boiled detective navigating crime, corruption, and his own haunted past. The newly released footage leans heavily into noir aesthetics, blending stylized black-and-white visuals with brutal action and a grounded, character-driven mystery.

First, watch the new color trailer

    Now, watch the black-and-white version

    What is Spider-Noir About?

Marvel Noir is an alternate continuity from Marvel Comics, active from 2009 to 2010, that merges elements of pulp literature and film noir with the Marvel Universe. Set in an alternate reality (Earth-90214) during the American Great Depression, this miniseries emphasizes motivated, noir-style characterization rather than superpowers.

Oren Uziel, co-showrunner (with Steve Lightfoot), is a devotee of film noir. Therefore, he was drawn to the Marvel series. Although the live-action series is still set in New York in the 1930s, Peter Parker is not the spidery superhero. Uziel felt that the Parker character didn’t exactly match the noir feel because he was too closely identified with a boyish high school type.

During a Deadline Hollywood event, executive producer Chris Miller described the atmosphere as “70 percent Humphrey Bogart and 30 percent Bugs Bunny.” He pointed out that Bogart and Bugs Bunny have a surprising amount in common. They both had a sparkle in their eyes and are always coming up with something clever. They envision the show as a detective novel with a Humphrey Bogart-like persona, but the investigator also possesses spider powers. Miller has stated that the goal is not to build a “giant web of interconnected series.” He said it’s “own little jewel of a story.”

The story explores crime syndicates and personal tragedy, mixing superhero action with detective storytelling. It’s the first live-action Spider-Man show in decades.

    Nicolas Cage Returns as Spider-Noir

Television still of Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Noir
    Spider-Noir (2026): Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage)

This isn’t Nicholas Cage’s first time playing Spider-Noir. Cage played the Spider-Noir character briefly in the animated works Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Across the Spider-Verse (2023). He will play that part again in the forthcoming Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Cage is portraying Ben Reilly, a hard-boiled private investigator who also happens to be The Spider, a covert superhero. According to the official synopsis, “Spider-Noir tells the story of Ben Reilly (Nicolas Cage), a seasoned, down on his luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life, following a deeply personal tragedy, as the city’s one and only superhero.”

His performance combines classic noir influences with his unique eccentricity, and marked Cage’s debut as a leading actor in a live-action superhero television series.

What the Spider-Man Noir Trailer Reveals

This new video is more action-oriented than the previous one, which focused mostly on the noir and Nicholas Cage’s character, Ben Reilly’s mind. In that regard, we witness him engaging in some real web-swinging and crimefighting for the first time in years since he lost Ruby, his beloved. The adversaries he faces—Sandman (Jack Huston), Megawatt (Andrew Lewis Caldwell), and the fire-wielding Jimmy Addison (Jack Mikesell)—make his return to this existence difficult. Like other private investigators, Ben must save the city and solve the case because all three appear to have connections to Silvermane (Brendan Gleeson), the local crime lord.

Images of a mutant Man-Spider that bites Ben Reilly and grants him abilities are seen. Compared to the comics, where Peter obtains his abilities from a spider-idol, that represents a substantial shift. In the most recent Spider-Noir trailer, Nicolas Cage declares, “Every mystery forms a complex web.” He says, continuing his monologue, “Pull the right strand, and it’s a straight line to the answer.”

Spider-Noir Release Date and Streaming Details

The project will be presented in a novel fashion by the company: Spider-Noir will be streamed in two separate formats: “Authentic Black & White” and “True-Hue Full Color” (the original comics were somewhat muted and monochromatic, but in color).

Although the project is based on the Spider-Man Noir comic, it is a stand-alone project and is not a part of the Into the Spider-Verse franchise or the Sony films.

All eight episodes of Spider-Noir will be accessible on Prime Video on May 27, 2026, following its May 25, 2026, launch on MGM+.

Final Thoughts on Prime Video’s Spider-Noir

With its bold visual style and noir-driven storytelling, Spider-Noir looks poised to deliver one of the most unique Marvel adaptations to date. Nicolas Cage’s return to the role adds even more intrigue, and the full trailer suggests a series that leans heavily into atmosphere, character, and mystery rather than traditional superhero spectacle. As the premiere approaches, anticipation is building for what could be a standout addition to Prime Video’s growing lineup of genre content.
