“We can do it!” Female Avengers |
Welcome to “Geek Bits” where we share the geekiest bits of the Internet
for you. How much is Tony Stark’s mansion worth? What’s the
answer to life, the universe and everything? Is Yoda’s hut the ultimate
fixer-upper? What does a real Thor hammer look like? What short-sighted
prediction did Darryl Zanuck make about TV in 1946?
NEWS
A-Z Reflections
The A-Z Challenge is over and I thought it was a good year. My brother
and I have been doing this for years, so it was no big deal (although
we did get our letters crossed a few times) and always fun. I didn’t
visit all the blogs. In fact, I only managed to get to 100. Pretty
pathetic, since last year I visited hundreds. Blame my job. I still
plan to keep visiting till I hit all 1,940. I made a bunch of new
friends (Clarissa I’m looking in your direction) and was really
impressed by the posts. Some really awesome themes this year. See you
in 2014!
Awards
Tony gave us a another Liebster award!
Thanks Bro!
Fun Fact: No one knows where the award originated from, but
the earliest mention was on German blog in 2010.
Here’s the Google translation of the German post: “You should also link
to the blog of the person who gave you the award and inform them by
[commenting] in [their] blog that you [gave] them the award and the
link you leave some of your post. Then you are thinking about you 3-5
favorite blogs that you link in your post and the owner of each per
[comment]. The aim of this action is that we bring unknown, [good]
blogs to light, so I would ask you not to blog items that already have
been 3,000 readers, but talented beginners and people, although
blogging has been a while, but still not as well known.”
- Do you have TV shows you watch
obsessively? No current ones, but when Lost was in it’s heyday I could
talk about it for hours! And often did. - Do you have a movie or movie
series you obsess over? Tell me about that. - Do you have an author you obsess
over? Not really unless you count Stan Lee. I love lots of
authors. - Anything interesting about your
hometown? Brooklyn, New York? Where do I start… - Traveled a lot? Not
really, but I have been to Jamaica a lot since I have family there. - Is there something you really
hate? Tell me about that (because it’s not the Internet
unless someone’s talking about something they really hate). - Do you have any great
fears? I am terrified of falling. Not heights, but
falling. There’s a difference and that’s why I hate roller coasters. - Have any even tenuous
associations with famous people? I know a bunch of famous
concept
artists and illustrators, but I used to live down the street from the
mansions of the Phoenix Suns basketball players. - Have any relatives you want to
talk about? I could talk about my twin brother, but I’ll just
talk about my Mom who is the strongest woman I know.. - Do you know the answer to life?
the universe? everything? 42, but you’re not asking the
right question. - Is there a movie you thought was
better than the book? Plenty, of course, but the most
recent was The Hunger Games.
A
movie just can’t capture the depth of a book.. - Do you have a favorite
historical figure? Abraham Lincoln. I always imagine him
as a boy reading by candlelight in his log cabin and becoming the
President of the United States. He’s a real self-made man. - Have you ever had a favorite
comic strip? My family has always loved reading comic
strips and we had a huge collection of books. My all-time favorite is Calvin & Hobbes, but The Far Side is brilliant too.
The award’s kind of gotten out of hand, so I’ll just go by the original rules: Giving it to the following blogs with no request to answer questions.
Just pass it on.

REVIEWS
TV
- Doctor Who “Journey to
the Centre of the TARDIS” (S7, E10) – A very surreal episode with a lot
of good twists. It was a bit of a let-down to get to the center, but
overall it was good. Clara is still a mystery, but the Doctor is coming
to accept it. I’m still not liking this season. (2 1/2 out of 5) - Revolution “Home” (S2,
E15) – The episode takes Miles and Monroe back to their hometown to
explore the beginnings of their relationship. You’d think it would be
more interesting, but the characters spend a lot of time staring
mournfully into the distance. And why do they have so many guns. The
suckiness dipped a bit. (1 1/2 out of 5)

You guys have an unfair advantage in the A to Z challenge since there are two of you.
Two of my favorite comics as well. And very cool you visit Jamaica often. I'm grateful I've travelled to and lived in so many different countries.
I didn't visit as many new blogs as I wanted to either. Spent most of my time trying to maintain while drowning in comments and normal blogger buddy posts.
grand post… lots of great stuff… wait, what… JP4… do they know that there are still dinosaurs there….
HIgh fives to a fellow Calvin and Hobbes fan! Club GROSS is now in session. LOL And yes I do live in the state of Denial. Congrats on the Liebster, this blog rocks.
You know it stands for Get Rid Of Slimy girlS, right? Okay, you can join, but only if you sing the ode satisfactorily.
Yeah, I droned on and on, didn't I? It figures that the Liebster is German, since it sounds generally Germanic. It concerns me that there are now several generations of kids who didn't grow up with Calvin & Hobbes or Far Side. ("May I be excused? My head is full.")
Congratulations on the award!
I love Calvin & Hobbes.
I didn't get around to as many blogs as I did last year, either. I'd meant to, but I made the mistake of not prewriting anything and writing posts on the same day they're supposed to go up takes a lot of blogging time.
I used to love Calvin and Hobbes.
Bwah ha ha! True Pat, but I was running two blogs during the challenge
Congrats Eagle! I got a schedule made and tried prewriting, but couldn't get very far ahead myself.
You did great Tony. I never thought about that Man! It feels criminal.
High Five Melissa! It's you guys that make the blog rock.
I have a bad feeling about JB4, but am willing to give it a chance.
I actually never thought about Jamaica as being special growing up Alex.
Classic stuff Colin. The man is genius.
