There are lots of dating websites out there, and lots of them cater to people with specific tastes such as motorcycles, cats, and tattoos. But now there’s a dating website for Star Trek fans. Unimaginably called Trekkie Dating, it works like any other dating website. You sign up, enter your location and preference, and look for love. If I were single and into online dating, I might take the advantages of this website. You don’t have to worry about your Trek fandom being a deal breaker. Recently, a team of scientists announced that they had not only found genetic evidence of Bigfoot, but had analyzed it and determined it to be part human. While the announcement itself is pretty worthless – first, you have to accept that they have DNA from Bigfoot, which they haven’t provided to back up their claims – it does raise the question of belief. Instead of tracking Bigfoot, how about we track people who believe in Bigfoot? How many men vs. women? Where are they most common? Check out this handy infographic by LiveScience to find out. Galaxy Quest, a hilarious movie about a group of actors forced by aliens to re-enact their on-screen sci-fi personas, perfectly satirizes Star Trek, fandom, scifi movies, and TV and movie cliches. I’ve heard a lot of praise about the clever in-jokes, the great characters, and the way the movie skewers Trekkers without mocking then. What I haven’t seen mentioned much is the fake fansite created for the movie back in 1999. It’s brilliant. Perhaps you never got a chance to see it, since it was taken down years ago. But thanks to the truly noble work of archive.org, it still lives!…

I have a confession to make: I love the movie Daredevil. I didn’t realize this movie has a bad reputation until years later, and I still don’t understand why. Some critics complained about how dark it was, which to me is a good thing. It fits the comics. Daredevil’s life makes Spiderman’s look like My Little Pony. Maybe it’s because I’ve always been a fan of Daredevil in the comics. I know it has its flaws, starting with a mediocre performance by Ben Affleck, a story focused more on Elektra than Daredevil, and some gaping plot holes. Still, I think…

In 1990, Virgin Games created the first videogame based on Monty Python’s Flying Circus, a platform game for 8-bit computers. While the game itself was a clever bit of nonsense based on the show where you played Gumby and traveled through pipes and clouds, threw fish, and collected cans of spam, the manual itself was the best part. Over forty pages long, I would estimate only about four or five pages are dedicated to the actual game. The rest of it consists of in-jokes, original Pythonesque humor, and references to the show in a crazy compendium of fun. I recently…
