Who Should Or Should Not Play The New Batman? – Update [Poll]

This week’s Thursday poll is Batman related. Director Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale have said they’re not coming back for a fourth Batman film. The movies are a huge success, so another Batman is inevitable.

To many Christian Bale is Batman. But, like James Bond, they could do a reboot or just recast the main character.  So who should it be? Who would you cringe at the thought of?

Here are some of my ideas.

    GOOD

    • Michael Fassbender
    • James Caveziel
    • Jake Gyllenhaal
    • Channing Tatum
    • Cillian Murphy
    • Hugh Jackman
    • Mark Ruffalo

    BAD

    • Eddie Murphy
    • Mark Wahlberg
    • Gallagher
    • Arnold Schwarzenegger
    • Scott Baio
    •  Matthew McConaughey
    • Paul “Pee-Wee Herman” Ruebens

Let us know in the comments who should, or should not, wear the bat-suit. I’ll take some of your best comments and update this post next week Friday (July 26).

This is late, but here are some of your great comments.

    • i think if they should make another film, go another direction… make this series end and make another not so dark and in need of a lozenge. now don’t get me wrong i enjoy this set of films, but it’s time to give tv batman a shot at glory. – jeremy [retro-zombie]
    • I’d love to see Jim Caviezel as Batman! I really think that would work very well. – Jenna S.
    • I agree with everyone on your BAD list, but I have some serious concerns with the idea of Channing Tatum of Hugh Jackman playing Batman. Bust Michael Fassbender – yes, yes, yes. – S.L. H.
    • Who should play him? Absolutely no one. Once Nolan’s series ends, there’s no way anyone could take over and make films even half as good. – Alex C.
    • If they make more, they should take a tip from the Bond movies and go in a different direction from this Batman. Perhaps Channing Tatum could lighten him up a little. But they shouldn’t try to recreate the magic of The Dark Knight. My two cents. – Carol K.
    • I suppose part of it will depend on what direction they’re going to take the franchise in. For one thing if you’re going to reboot it completely then you need someone who can play a younger Bruce Wayne/Batman so you’d want someone in their late 20s right now, which would rule out some on your list. If you’re doing more like the 1989 version and starting more in the middle of Batman’s career then you can pick an older actor. Plus if you’re going to take it back to the more campy Joel Schumacher direction (God forbid) then you need someone who could play it for laughs. Anyway, to your list I’d add Sam Worthington and one of the co-stars of this last movie, Joseph Gordon-Leavitt. – Pat D.

    • Andy Biersack. Nuff said. – Panda I.
    • I think Bruce Willis would make an excellent Batman 😉 – Jessica S.

Who do you think should, or should not, play Bruce WayneBatman in the next film?

Oh yeah and to your NOT list I'd add Seth Rogen and Jonah HIll. And while we're add it, Adam Sandler, Will Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, Rob Schneider. Uck.

    3. Lydia K on July 19, 2012 6:49 pm

Normally I'd say Fassbender, but he's a wee bit too old to play him.

    4. Alex J. Cavanaugh on July 19, 2012 6:52 pm

Who should play him? Absolutely no one. Once Nolan's series ends, there's no way anyone could take over and make films even half as good.

I think Bruce Willis would make an excellent Batman 😉

    8. Jessica Stank on July 19, 2012 7:26 pm

Ha! Lozenge… That cracked me up. I totally agree on the raspy Batman voice. Who is this fooling?

    9. Liesel Hill on July 19, 2012 8:25 pm

I'd be cool with Fassbender. Might I also suggest someone not on the list: Jared Padalecki. I also think it'd be cool if they just did a general casting call and found some awesome unknown actor to play him. That'd be fun. 😀

    10. Carol Kilgore on July 19, 2012 9:02 pm

If they make more, they should take a tip from the Bond movies and go in a different direction from this Batman. Perhaps Channing Tatum could lighten him up a little. But they shouldn't try to recreate the magic of The Dark Knight. My two cents.

    11. MPax on July 19, 2012 9:41 pm

I agree with Carol. Alhough I'm a big fan of dark. which is probably why Batman is my favorite super hero.

    12. Tony Laplume on July 19, 2012 10:02 pm

If you splice his roles from Dark Angel and NCIS together, Michael Weatherly has already done Batman/Bruce Wayne.

    13. Colin "Fitz" Biggs on July 24, 2012 2:42 am

    26. MJR on July 12, 2013 5:15 pm

I think they should just make a 'Robin' spin-off with John Blake. Of course, they would have to revamp the costume (maybe more like Red Robin from the comics?) and deviate a bit from the comics, but it would be better than trying to do another reboot or directly continue the 'Dark Knight' trilogy.
