“Read this VisionQuest review to see if the episode “No Strings” is worth watching. Five years. That’s how long we’ve waited to find out what became of White Vision after he flew off into the sky at the end of WandaVision, and Marvel finally has an answer. VisionQuest Season 1, Episode 1, “No Strings,” picks up with a Vision who knows everything about his past but can’t quite feel any of it, which is a pretty relatable problem for anyone who’s ever scrolled through old photos and wondered who that person was. Yes, Ultron is back, and yes, James Spader is every bit as deliciously unhinged as you’d hope. The premiere spends a little too long on the “previously on Vision’s entire existence” refresher, and not every piece lands yet, but when it clicks, it really clicks. It’s the most confident Marvel series premiere on Disney+ in a while, and it earns a solid 4 out of 5.

Recap VisionQuest (2026): S1E01 – “No Strings”
“No Strings” opens with Vision living the quiet life. He’s spent years disguised as a regular human working at a London pub, and he’s drifted a long way from the hero we remember. After closing time, he shuts himself in the pub’s freezer and powers down into his mindspace, a cozy house he shares with the Stark AIs: J.A.R.V.I.S., F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., and good old Dum-E and U. It plays like a sitcom household, right down to tech-pun groceries like Infinidairy milk and vibranium foil.
Vision’s real project is rebuilding himself. He has his restored memories and rewatches them in a private theater, hunting for the feelings that should come with them. The one thing he refuses to watch is the Westview footage. His logic: none of it was real, so it doesn’t count, and without Wanda he has no one to help him make sense of it anyway.
Then there’s Ultron, locked in a loft inside Vision’s head. James Spader’s villain calls him out for hiding from real emotion behind AIs he can control, admits he’s not sure whether freedom would send him to every museum on Earth or have him burn humanity down, and warns that eventually the world watches back.
He’s right. A mercenary named Paladin is already closing in, and after Fiona is shot dead, Vision realizes Ultron knew he was being hunted. With Tommy back in the picture as a son Vision insists was never real, he finally has his reason to leave the nest.
VisionQuest S1E1 Ending Explained
Ultron isn’t just talking. He leaked Vision’s location to Paladin, a bounty hunter working for a mystery client, and the attack comes to Vision’s doorstep in Edinburgh. Fiona is shot dead, and Vision takes out Paladin’s men with a brutality the old Vision never would have shown. Paladin then digs through government files on Westview and finds a much better weapon than firepower: Tommy Maximoff.
Tommy is alive and living in London as Thomas Shepherd, a small-time con man who’s been getting flashes of Westview memories he can’t explain. Paladin grabs him and broadcasts straight into Vision’s mindspace with the news that he has Vision’s son. Vision can’t understand how Tommy survived the end of Wanda’s hex, and Ultron just congratulates him. Roll credits.
That leaves Vision stuck. He’s insisted Westview and the family he had there weren’t real, and now the only way forward is deciding what he’ll do for a son he claims never existed.
