Why Women Love “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” [Superheroes]

When X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) came out, I posted the news that 47% of the $160 million dollars worth of tickets that past weekend were bought by women.

I know why I was there. To see everyone’s favorite X-Man get down and dirt with the bad guys. But, I often wondered. Why did so many women go to see it?

So, I did some research and broke down why, I think, so many women love Hugh Jackman as Wolvie.

Wolverine’s Body Hair is In the Right Place According to a Harris Interactive survey, “more than 90 percent of women between the ages  of eighteen and forty-four find back hair to be unattractive.” While Wolverine is considered pretty hairy, Jackman only has hair on his chest and arms. He’s slightly more hairy than the average man, but in the right places.

Wolverine Has The Right Kind of Body The dude works out and it shows. He doesn’t have the kind of over-powering body that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has, but he’s more muscular than the average guy. Plus, he focuses, not so much on the lats and shoulders, but the chest and arms. Those are the places women like to look at.

Wolverine Has A Sensitive Side Logan is known for scowling, but every now and then he flashes the pearly whites. It’s then that you see he has a sensitive side. Plus, the scenes of him saving teenagers and old people don’t hurt.

Wolverine Is A Good Guy Off-Camera Off camera Hugh Jackman is very attractive to women. He’s a devoted family man, likes singing and is a great dancer. He has a great sense of humor and is always kind to people. We never hear reports of him snubbing fans or throwing things at waiters. To many, off-camera he’s even more attractive.

Wolverine’s Eyes Hugh Jackman has hazel brown and green eyes. Logan usually has them scowling in a frown. But, every now, and he flashes them with a smile. Plus, there’s a hint of pain in those eyes. Women love that.

Wolverine’s Got Claws The same hands Logan uses to slice  a guy into ribbons he uses to cradle a small child. That kind of dangerous, unpredictability makes women weak in the knees.

Wolverine Has A Sensitive Side Logan is known for scowling, but every now and then he flashes the pearly whites. It’s then that you see he has a sensitive side. Plus, the scenes of him saving teenagers and old people don’t hurt.

Well, that’s my take as a man. What’s your take as a man, or woman?

Why do women love Hugh Jackman as Wolverine? Let us know in the comments

A model for men all over, except for the blades of course. 😀

    2. Maurice Mitchell on April 4, 2012 3:43 pm

LOL Yeah, MyNameIsEarl, the blades could get in the way. I'm working on the arms though.

    3. Jstank on April 4, 2012 4:31 pm

Hello! I'm just popping over for the a to z thingy. I write Superhero fiction, so I figured your blog would be, at least somewhat up my alley. I love the Wolvering post. I do love me some Wolverine. I would even go so far as to call him my very favorite hero of all. He's the cream of the crop, for all the reasons you mentioned. But, I happen to like comic-Wolverine as much as movie-Wolverine. Yum!

Haha you seem to have a a great insight into women's minds 😛 Nice article…

    5. M Pax on April 4, 2012 9:48 pm

He's definitely pleasant, and probably the only actor I can name in the X-man. Wait, no! Jean Luc's in it, too. Isn't he? I think he's nice, too.

    6. Maurice Mitchell on April 4, 2012 10:02 pm

Gracias Neil. Women are still a beautiful mystery to me.

    7. Maurice Mitchell on April 4, 2012 10:04 pm

You're right M Pax. X-Men has some great actors.

    8. Commander Spacey on April 4, 2012 10:29 pm

Thats a tough question. I suppose it could be because of the claws, isn't it? Some women like it rough, LOL.

    9. Maurice Mitchell on April 4, 2012 10:58 pm

Spacey, there is the element of danger. LOL

I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head with this post. At least you mentioned all of the reasons I like him! My only beef is with the Origins movie is that the writers screwed with the story too much. They killed Deadpool and they screwed up the timeline. It still remains my favorite movie of the X-Men flicks, but First Class is a close second.

    12. Maurice Mitchell on May 17, 2012 10:26 pm

Thanks Jessie. Glad I got close. I agree Deadpool was too good a character to mess with. Hopefully, his solo movie will be better.
