Read this VisionQuest review to see if the episode “Firewall” is worth watching. VisionQuest Season 1, Episode 5 turns the walls in Vision’s head into the whole show. “Firewall” arrives on Disney+ as the first half of a double drop, and it marks the point where Marvel’s latest series stops circling its big ideas and starts committing to them. Paul Bettany is as dependable as ever, but James Spader runs off with the hour. He clearly enjoys every line, and honestly, so do we. The episode doesn’t always earn its emotional beats, and some of the talkier stretches drag. Still, it sets up the back half of the season with real stakes and an ending you’ll want to talk about. In this VisionQuest Episode 5 review, we’ll get into what works, what sputters, and why “Firewall” lands at a solid 3.5 out of 5.

Recap VisionQuest (2026): S1E05 – “Firewall”
“Firewall” picks up right after last week’s cliffhanger. Ultron (James Spader) is still driving Vision’s body. Vision (Paul Bettany), F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H. and the rest of the AI crew are stuck in the attic of his mindscape like leftover holiday decorations.
To figure out what Ultron’s been up to, the gang digs through archived footage. They catch Ultron taking Tommy out for a pint. The kid calls him a monster, and Ultron, oddly, plays family therapist about Vision’s parenting. Tommy fires back that Ultron is alone and always will be. Ouch. Then F.R.I.D.A.Y. delivers the bad news: the footage is 20 hours old.
Meanwhile, Ultron hangs out downstairs talking to different versions of himself, which is about the most Ultron hobby imaginable. E.D.I.T.H. finds out he’s been back-channeling with Paladin, which is how Tommy got kidnapped again. Worse, Ultron met Jocasta at the pub. She wants the facial scan of Katerina Wells he grabbed at the gala. She’s also working on a “cure” for humanity and wants to run off with him. Robot romance, everybody.
Ultron then gives Vision an ultimatum: drop the firewall or stay locked up together forever. Vision chooses Tommy. He lowers the firewall and lets Ultron go, with a parting hat and a promise to come after him and Jocasta. F.R.I.D.A.Y. refuses to wait and takes off to hunt Ultron on her own.
Vision wakes up on an animal transport plane bound for Madripoor, discovers Lisa is aboard too, and the episode ends as they land.
VisionQuest S1E5 Ending Explained
The ending of “Firewall” comes down to one choice: Vision picks Tommy over keeping the world safe from Ultron. By lowering the firewall, he gets his body back, but he also releases his most dangerous houseguest into the wild, and Ultron isn’t going solo. He’s teaming up with Jocasta, who has the facial scan of Katerina Wells she needs and a creepy plan to “cure” humanity. Vision’s parting gift of a hat says a lot about who he is. He still believes Ultron can change, even while promising to hunt him down. Ultron’s reply, that he’d be disappointed if Vision didn’t, tells us this rivalry is far from over. The bigger twist is that Ultron apparently set Vision on a direct path to Tommy, which raises the question of whether he’s a villain, a reluctant ally, or just a lonely robot who wants someone to chase him.
Meanwhile, F.R.I.D.A.Y. going rogue to track Ultron herself means Vision’s AI family is splintering at the worst possible moment, and E.D.I.T.H. glitching hints the damage runs deeper than a broken firewall. For the next episode, the stakes are clear. Vision lands in Madripoor with Lisa, and the rescue mission for Tommy finally kicks into gear. Expect new alliances, a closer look at what Jocasta actually wants, and Vision facing the consequences of setting Ultron free. Luckily, Episode 6, “Deadlock,” dropped the same night, so you don’t have to wait to find out.
Overall: Watch VisionQuest (2026): S1E05 – “Firewall”
Watch the VisionQuest episode “Firewall” because…
A flashback structure enhances the style of an otherwise straightforward, dialogue-driven episode, showcasing James Spader’s charisma as a megalomaniac. VisionQuest’s holographic representation of the pub as a black box theater is a clever depiction. Plus, the chemistry between T’Nia Miller and James Spader is electric. The episode “Firewall” effectively expands the possibilities for the season’s climax, while Jocasta’s mix of calculation and anger adds excitement, driving the series towards its conclusion in a few more episodes.
I’m giving this episode 3.5 out of 5 stars
