    Confirmed Cast Members Left Out

Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler.

Several actors have already been confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday. Surprisingly, none of them appear in the trailer. Marvel has hidden major characters before. However, this group stands out because each could play a significant role against Doctor Doom.

The most surprising omission is Kelsey Grammer. He returns as Hank McCoy, better known as Beast. Grammer first played the brilliant mutant in X-Men: The Last Stand. He later returned during the post-credit scene of The Marvels. Marvel has already confirmed his appearance, yet Beast never shows up. Considering he bridges the Fox X-Men universe and the MCU, his absence feels deliberate.

Another missing mutant is Alan Cumming. He returns as Nightcrawler after first stealing scenes in X2: X-Men United. Cumming has already discussed filming the movie during interviews. Nevertheless, Marvel continues hiding him from every trailer. Nightcrawler may not be Wolverine, but he remains one of the franchise’s most beloved heroes.

Then there is Lewis Pullman. He plays Robert “Bob” Reynolds, better known as Sentry, after debuting in Thunderbolts*. His powers rival almost anyone in Marvel. In theory, he could become one of Doctor Doom’s biggest obstacles. Instead, Marvel barely acknowledges that he exists.

The simplest explanation is spoiler protection. Pullman previously hinted that several characters “resume their journeys” in unexpected ways. That strongly suggests Marvel is saving its biggest reveals for opening weekend. After all, if Sentry unleashes his full power in the trailer, what would fans spend the next six months debating?

    • Beast (Kelsey Grammar)
    • Nightcrawler (Alan Cumming)
    • Sentry (Lewis Pullman

No Jean Grey, and It May Not Be a Trailer Choice

Alt text: Famke Janssen as Jean Grey holding up a gloved hand in X-Men.

Some missing characters can be explained by marketing. Jean Grey feels different.

Famke Janssen has not been confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday. Her name also never appeared during Marvel’s famous “wall o’ chairs” cast announcement. Since then, she has remained absent from every teaser and trailer.

That omission stands out because Jean has always been central to the X-Men. She anchored the franchise’s most famous love triangle with Cyclops and Wolverine. The last time audiences saw her was in X-Men: The Last Stand, where Wolverine killed her to stop the Phoenix Force.

Meanwhile, Cyclops appears throughout the trailer. He receives several heroic moments, yet Jean is never mentioned. That could mean Marvel is hiding a surprise cameo. However, it may point toward something much bigger.

If Jean is truly gone, her absence could become Cyclops’ emotional motivation. Losing the person he loves might push him toward impossible decisions during the multiverse crisis. Marvel has used personal loss to shape heroes before. Therefore, this theory fits the studio’s storytelling style.

Unlike Beast or Nightcrawler, Jean’s absence feels less like trailer editing and more like an intentional story choice. If that’s true, Marvel is making a bold decision with one of comics’ most iconic couples.

And honestly, if Marvel breaks up Scott and Jean again, therapy should become an official X-Men benefit.

    Steve Rogers’ Return Goes Unexplained

One of the biggest surprises in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer is the return of Chris Evans. Marvel confirmed his appearance, but the footage reveals almost nothing. Instead, fans are left with one massive question: Which Steve Rogers is coming back?

The trailer shows Steve reaching for Mjolnir, recreating one of the most memorable moments from Avengers: Endgame. The scene immediately reminds fans why Captain America was considered worthy. However, it also creates a huge continuity mystery.

At the end of Endgame, Steve returned the Infinity Stones and chose to live a quiet life with Peggy Carter. He eventually grew old and passed the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson. His story appeared finished.

So how is Steve back in his prime? Several possibilities exist. He could be the original Steve restored through some multiverse event. He could also be a variant from another timeline. Considering Doctor Doom’s involvement, almost anything is possible.

Marvel has used the multiverse to bring back familiar faces before. However, Steve Rogers is different. He represents one of the MCU’s biggest emotional journeys.

This is clearly a mystery Marvel wants fans to discuss. Explaining his return now would remove one of the film’s biggest surprises. Instead, the trailer gives audiences one heroic shot and lets speculation do the rest.

Because apparently Marvel believes fans need another thing to argue about until release day.

    Loki’s Full Role Remains Unclear

Tom Hiddleston as Loki looking out a window in Avengers: Doomsday.
Avengers: Doomsday (2026): Loki (Tom Hiddleston) [Image Source: Marvel Studios]

The God of Mischief is definitely returning in Avengers: Doomsday. However, Marvel still refuses to explain what Loki is actually doing.

Tom Hiddleston appears briefly in the trailer. He also appears in the film’s promotional artwork. Yet, his role remains one of the biggest mysteries.

Loki has traveled a complicated path in the MCU. He began as the villain of The Avengers. He later died during Avengers: Infinity War. However, a variant escaped during the events of Avengers: Endgame and received his own Disney+ series.

By the end of Loki Season 2, he became the guardian of the timeline. He now sits at the center of the multiverse, literally holding reality together.

The trailer adds another clue. Loki is shown with a TVA identification card featuring a new multiverse tree symbol. That connects directly to his role protecting every timeline.

The big question is simple: What is his goal?

Will Loki warn the Avengers about Doctor Doom? Will he work with Earth’s heroes? Or will he focus only on protecting the timeline while everyone else causes another cosmic disaster?

Knowing Loki, he will probably do all three while lying about everything.

    Rumored Names With No Confirmation

Now we enter the dangerous territory of Marvel speculation.

Several major characters have been rumored for Avengers: Doomsday. However, none appear in the trailer. That has only increased fan theories.

The biggest question involves Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. Since appearing in Doctor Strange, the character has become Marvel’s expert on mystical threats and alternate realities.

Strange played a major role in Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. His journey through the multiverse makes him a natural opponent for Doctor Doom.

    So where is he?

Another obvious omission is Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man. The character has been one of Marvel’s biggest heroes since Captain America: Civil War. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day arriving shortly before Doomsday, fans expect Peter Parker to be involved somehow.

Other rumored appearances include Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Both characters became major MCU players after Deadpool & Wolverine.

Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk has also been rumored. However, reports suggest Marvel may save his return for Secret Wars.

Deadpool and Wolverine is one of the only big hits Marvel Studios has had in the last five years. So we know Marvel is just chomping at the bit to get some more of that sweet, sweet Deadpool money. Unfortunately, with Wade Wilson’s potty mouth and Wolverine claws, the movie would get slapped with an R Rating. And then, how would Disney Avengers playsets?

Of course, Marvel has a long history of hiding surprise appearances. So a missing character list might actually be a “wait until opening night” list.

    The “Unthinkable Decision” Stays Vague

Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom wearing a hooded mask in Avengers: Doomsday.
Avengers: Doomsday (2026): Doctor Doom/Victor von Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) [Image Source: Marvel Studios]

One of the most mysterious moments in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer comes from Professor X. He warns that the heroes will face an “unthinkable decision” before the day is over. However, Marvel refuses to explain what that decision actually means.

Considering everything the Avengers have survived, the stakes must be enormous. These heroes have already fought Thanos, watched half the universe disappear, and sacrificed some of their closest friends. They have even changed reality itself. So what could be worse?

The obvious theory involves an Incursion. The multiverse has already been damaged by events in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Loki. A collision between universes could force heroes to choose which reality survives.

That creates an impossible situation. Saving one universe might mean destroying another. Protecting billions of lives could require sacrificing trillions. It is the type of choice that would challenge even Earth’s mightiest heroes.

Other theories suggest a major character death. Fans have already seen emotional sacrifices from characters like Black Widow and Iron Man. Marvel has shown it is willing to remove its biggest heroes when the story demands it.

Of course, Doctor Doom could also be manipulating everyone. The villain is famous for using intelligence and deception instead of brute force. The “unthinkable decision” might not be a choice at all. It could simply be Doom pushing heroes toward a trap.

Either way, Marvel knows exactly what it is doing. The trailer gives fans one mysterious line and enough possibilities to create thousands of theories.

    Closing Thoughts

The first full Avengers: Doomsday trailer delivers plenty of surprises. However, its biggest reveals might actually be the missing characters.

Confirmed cast members like Beast, Nightcrawler, and Sentry remain hidden. Jean Grey’s absence creates questions about Cyclops’ storyline. Steve Rogers’ return introduces a major timeline mystery. Meanwhile, Loki’s purpose remains unclear despite his connection to the entire multiverse.

Then there are the rumored appearances. Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Deadpool, Wolverine, and Hulk continue to fuel fan speculation. Marvel has built its biggest crossover yet around one simple idea: expect the unexpected.

That may be the biggest clue about Avengers: Doomsday. The trailer shows enough to create excitement but hides enough to protect the surprises. After years of multiverse stories, Marvel has learned one important lesson. Sometimes the biggest spoiler is explaining too much.

The missing characters, unanswered questions, and mysterious choices suggest this movie could be much bigger than the trailer reveals.

And honestly, if Marvel wanted fans to spend months analyzing every frame, mission accomplished.
