Marvel Studios is finally bringing VisionQuest to Disney+, continuing the story that began in WandaVision and expanded through Agatha All Along. With Paul Bettany returning as White Vision and James Spader reprising Ultron, the upcoming Marvel series could become one of the MCU’s most important Phase 6 projects. From release date details to cast announcements, story theories, and possible Scarlet Witch connections, here’s everything we know about VisionQuest so far.
What Is VisionQuest?

If you’re new to the MCU, you might not be familiar with the events leading up to the VisionQuest Disney+ show.
Back in 2021, Marvel took a big swing with WandaVision. It was billed as the first sitcom set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In reality, it was a dramedy continuing Wanda Maximoff’s tragic story. The series follows the family she created in the town of Westview to deal with the death of her synthetic husband, Vision.
At the end of the series, the synthetic android created by S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division) left to find his destiny. Nicknamed “White Vision,” he has no memory of who or what he is.
It’s part of Phase 6 and follows Agatha All Along and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It’s considered the final chapter in the WandaVision trilogy of television shows.
VisionQuest Release Date Confirmed
On May 12, 2026, during Disney’s 2026 Upfronts presentation, Marvel formally announced the release date for VisionQuest. The show will debut on October 14, 2026, on Disney+ and run for six episodes.
The showrunner will be Terry Matalas, who was also running Star Trek: Picard. He’s known for balancing deep character-driven drama with massive, universe-expanding, crowd-pleasing spectacle. So the show is in good hands.
The show is set to take place one year after the events of WandaVision. That show is set three weeks after Endgame and before the events of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man: Far From Home. That makes this show set after Doctor Strange 2, when Wanda apparently dies. Will she return in some form? Only time will tell. It also takes place before the events of both Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts. But we don’t know what connections it has to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday, and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Returning Cast Members

As with many projects in the MCU, some old faces will return. Wonder Man brought back Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley). Here’s who’s coming back for VisionQuest, the WandaVision sequel.
Paul Bettany as Vision

Paul Bettany plays a superpowered android and former Avenger. Vision was created using various AI systems and the Mind Stone. He was killed in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and later resurrected in WandaVision (2021) with an all-white appearance and no memories or emotions. After regaining his memories, Vision struggles to reconnect with them due to his emotional void. Showrunner Terry Matalas likened his journey to Spock’s in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986), where Vision experiences personifications of other AI programs within his mind, appearing in both android and human forms.
James Spader as Ultron

First seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Ultron is an AI system developed by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner for a peacekeeping initiative. Played by James Spader, he develops a god complex and seeks to eradicate humanity, ultimately being destroyed by Vision. Creator Matalas hinted at Ultron’s return in a unique manner, featuring both robot and human forms, with the interactions between Vision and Ultron being a central dynamic of the series.
Faran Tahir as Raza

Next, we have Faran Tahir. He’s a Pakistani-American actor who appeared in the first Iron Man (2008). He plays Raza, a high-ranking commander of a Ten Rings cell in Afghanistan that kidnaps Tony Stark. Tahir is reprising his role for the show VisionQuest. What’s strange is that Obadiah Stane seemingly killed his character. Maybe flashbacks?
Todd Stashwick as Paul Denning / Paladin

Another actor joining the cast is a villain. In the show, Vision is being pursued by a mysterious bounty hunter named Paladin. He’s been likened by Matalas to Boba Fett, the bounty hunter from Star Wars. The character, according to Todd Stashwick, is a hardcore dude who resembles earlier parts that Matalas had written for him. Roles like Captain Liam Shaw, the cantankerous captain of the USS Titan on Picard.
Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy Maximoff / Speed / Thomas Shepherd

Tommy Maximoff is the speedster son of Vision and Wanda Maximoff. In the television series Agatha All Along (2024), he had his mind transferred into the teenage body of Thomas Shepherd by his twin brother Billy Maximoff. Gavin Borders, as a five-year-old, and Jett Klyne, as a ten-year old, played the character in previous installments. Ruaridh Mollica plays him for the first time.
Emily Hampshire as E.D.I.T.H.

Stark developed an AI that manages a security and protection system for his augmented reality program. In the movie Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019), Peter Parker/Spider-Man briefly inherited control of E.D.I.T.H. (Even Dead I’m The Hero) following Stark’s demise in Avengers: Endgame (2019). Initially, she was voiced by Dawn Michelle King and will now be portrayed by Canadian actress Emily Hampshire.
Henry Lewis as D.U.M.-E

Henry Lewis plays a robot on VisionQuest. D.U.M.-E is one of a pair of hydraulic arm robotic assistants in Tony Stark’s lab. They first appeared in Iron Man and reappeared several other times. It’s never had a voice, but presumably it will be voiced by an actor this time or appear as a physical manifestation.
Jonathan Sayer as U

U is the other hydraulic arm from Stark’s lab. Like D.U.M.-E, it never had a voice or a body before. Jonathan Sayer will be providing its voice or body. We’ll have to wait and find out.
James D’Arcy as J.A.R.V.I.S.

The next one is an interesting bit of casting. James D’Arcy played Edwin Jarvis, the butler for Howard Stark, in the short-lived television series Agent Carter. Presumably, Tony named his AI assistant after him. D’Arcy has reprised his role several times, but it appears that this time he’s playing the computer assistant.
T’Nia Miller as Jocasta

T’Nia Miller is best known for her roles on shows like Foundation and Doctor Who. She plays an evil, but cunning, robot plotting revenge. We reported last year that she’s joining the cast. Jim Shooter and George Pérez created Jocasta, who debuted in The Avengers #162 (1977). In the comics, Jocasta, who would later become Jocasta Pym and be Ultron’s wife, was created using Janet van Dyne’s brainwaves. It’s unknown if the character’s backstory will be the same in the live-action version.
Lauren Morais as Lisa Molinari

Lauren Morais is a rising Welsh actress who plays someone “closely connected” to Shepherd. We don’t know much more than that. But Morais frequently portrays intense, troubled young women caught in dark crime dramas and psychological thrillers. There’s a character in Marvel comics named Lisa Molinari, nicknamed “Coat of Arms,” who has a coat that grants her two extra sets of arms. Is she playing the comic book character? We’ll have to see.
Antonio Bustorff as TBA

Antonio Bustorff is playing an unnamed character in the Marvel show. He usually plays physically imposing, action-oriented archetypes such as mercenaries, bodyguards, criminals, sailors, and soldiers. In real life, he’s a heavyweight British Champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Because of his prior military training, casting directors frequently leverage his physical skills for intense, combative, or tactical roles in mainstream action and thriller productions. Chances are, he’ll be playing a bodyguard or associate of Palladin.
Diane Morgan as TBA

Diane Morgan plays an unnamed “associate” of Paladin. Morgan specializes in deadpan, eccentric, and deeply cynical comedic characters, most famously seen in her clueless mockumentary presenter Philomena Cunk and her chaotic, working-class anti-heroines in Mandy and Motherland. She’ll probably provide some comedic relief.
How VisionQuest Connects to WandaVision

Many fans are wondering how the new Marvel show connects to the previous show. We’re going to try to break down what we know.
Ultron’s Return Explained

One of the biggest surprises surrounding VisionQuest is the return of James Spader as Ultron. It appeared that Vision destroyed Ultron in his first appearance. The villain has not appeared in the MCU since Avengers: Age of Ultron, but his comeback instantly raises major questions.
Ultron was effectively Vision’s creator, making their relationship one of the MCU’s most fascinating philosophical rivalries. Vision represented hope and compassion, while Ultron viewed humanity as fundamentally flawed.
VisionQuest may finally revisit those themes in greater depth. Rumors suggest Ultron could appear in multiple forms, including AI systems and possibly even physical bodies. If true, the series could explore modern fears surrounding artificial intelligence while continuing the emotional story between creator and creation.
VisionQuest Plot Rumors and Theories
Marvel has revealed very little about VisionQuest, but fan theories are already everywhere. The biggest rumor suggests White Vision is searching for his humanity after regaining the original Vision’s memories in WandaVision. Even with those memories, he may still feel emotionally disconnected from his former life.
Another major theory involves the return of Ultron. Fans believe Ultron could rebuild himself through old Avengers or Stark technology, forcing Vision to confront his creator once again. Some rumors also point toward advanced AI storylines and hidden S.W.O.R.D. projects.
The biggest speculation, however, surrounds Scarlet Witch. Many fans think Wanda Maximoff survived Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and could return in the series. Others believe VisionQuest may quietly continue setting up the Young Avengers through Billy and Tommy Maximoff.
VisionQuest Could Set Up Marvel’s Future
VisionQuest may become one of Marvel’s most important Phase 6 projects because of its potential connections to future MCU films. The series is expected to help bridge storylines leading into Avengers: Doomsday and possibly Avengers: Secret Wars.
Vision remains one of the MCU’s most powerful heroes, and his return could influence future Avengers storylines involving artificial intelligence, advanced technology, or multiversal threats. The rumored return of Ultron could also pose major dangers to the wider Marvel universe.
Fans also believe VisionQuest may continue Marvel’s Young Avengers setup. Characters like Billy Maximoff, Kate Bishop, and Kamala Khan are already appearing throughout the MCU, and Vision’s connection to Wanda’s children could become important moving forward.
Beyond the action, the series may shape Marvel’s future themes by exploring identity, humanity, and artificial intelligence more emotionally.
Why Fans Are Excited for VisionQuest
Fans are excited for Vision Quest because it continues the story that began in WandaVision, which is still considered one of Marvel’s strongest Disney+ shows. Many viewers want answers about White Vision after his mysterious departure from Westview.
The return of Paul Bettany as Vision is another major reason for excitement. Bettany turned Vision into one of the MCU’s most emotional and philosophical heroes, making fans eager to see where the character goes next.
Marvel fans are also thrilled that James Spader is returning as Ultron. Many believed the villain deserved a larger role in the MCU, and VisionQuest gives Marvel a chance to explore that rivalry further.
The series also has strong creative support behind it, including showrunner Terry Matalas, whose character-driven storytelling has earned praise from science-fiction fans.
Final Thoughts
Between White Vision’s search for identity, Ultron’s shocking return, and major connections to the future of the MCU, VisionQuest already looks like essential viewing for Marvel fans. The Disney+ series could answer lingering questions from WandaVision while setting up massive events leading into Avengers: Doomsday and beyond. As Marvel releases more trailers, casting news, and plot details, VisionQuest may become one of the most talked-about MCU shows of 2026.
