Marvel has just dropped a bombshell: Spider-Man is officially confirmed to appear in a surprising Phase Six project, and it’s set to tie directly into Daredevil: Born Again. This unexpected crossover promises to shake up the MCU, blending two of its most beloved heroes in a way fans have been dreaming about for years. Here’s what we know so far—and why it matters.
Daredevil, the blind superpowered lawyer Matt Murdock, has been a beloved superhero since the 1960s. But his popularity soared when he appeared in the live-action Netflix series starring Charlie Cox between 2015 and 2018. Next year, he’s starring in the second season of the Disney+ revival titled Born Again. The show is a milestone for Marvel Studios and is critically acclaimed for its storytelling.
The gritty “street-level” superhero is being joined by another hero in the new Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day. While the two met in No Way Home, it wasn’t until last season that the show confirmed that Spider-Man and Daredevil share New York in the MCU. In episode two, Kingpin gives a speech saying, “…New Yorkers are tough. We know how to take care of ourselves. We don’t need a gun-toting vigilante who wears a skull on his chest, or a man who dresses in a spider outfit, or a guy who wears devil horns to save us.”
Since then, fans have hoped and dreamed that the two would work together, but it seemed unlikely. One is isolated to television and has a grounded approach. The other has faced off against cosmic-level threats with the Avengers in the movies. Plus, Daredevil is limited in how he can be used because of how Marvel owns the rights to the character.
But recently, Marvel TV head Brad Winderbaum teased to Entertainment Weekly that there’s “a lot of communication” between the two teams to tie the show and film together. “We are communicating a lot with the team on Spider-Man: Brand New Day to make sure that there’s coherence there,” Winderbaum says. “We don’t want to spoil anything, but it very much exists in the same world, and it is important.”
Fans have long questioned whether Matt Murdock and Peter Parker could ever appear on film together or make direct references to one another, even before the Punisher was announced for Brand New Day. This is especially true given that Spider-Man is meant to highlight Peter as a street-level hero. Mayor Fisk’s anti-vigilante regulations target him as a result, but don’t expect to see Tom Holland supporting Matt on the small screen.
When asked separately about the likelihood that Iron Fist and Luke Cage might appear in Born Again season two, Winderbaum described the season as “a little deeper” than its possible guest stars. His remarks regarding Danny and Luke may also apply to Spider-Man: “There are rewards to be had for fans, but it’s really about the stakes of this world that this Kingpin is building in New York City.”
Fans are speculating that Spider-Man’s crossover with Daredevil: Born Again could deliver both emotionally charged character moments and major Phase Six setup. Many imagine Daredevil mentoring Peter Parker as he navigates morally gray territory, challenging Spider-Man’s more optimistic worldview while exploring themes of guilt, responsibility, and the darker side of heroism. At the same time, fan forums and Reddit threads suggest this appearance could lay groundwork for larger MCU storylines, hinting at multiverse connections, secret villain alliances, or future team-ups with other street-level heroes like Echo or Punisher. By blending personal stakes with big-picture narrative seeds, this crossover has the potential to deepen both characters’ arcs while reshaping the MCU’s street-level landscape in Phase Six.
The Spider-Man and Daredevil crossover is shaping up to be one of Phase Six’s most thrilling surprises. Fans can expect epic interactions, shocking twists, and MCU-wide implications—proof that Marvel still knows how to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
The big-screen release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026, will reveal how Fisk and Matt’s conflict impacts Peter’s heroism. Meanwhile, Daredevil: Born Again returns with season two on March 4, 2025.
