Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) – Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) |
The first trailer for the new Terminator movie Terminator: Dark Fate dropped this morning and it features some very familiar faces and insane action. We talked about the movie trailer when it was released at ComiCon and now we have more info. Schwarzenneger has always been the star but Linda Hamilton is now the new Queen of the Terminator series.
Here’s the official poster.
Linda Hamilton played Sarah Connor thirty-five years ago and she’s still our best defense against Skynet delayed plans for humanities destruction. In Terminator: Dark Fate, the actress returns as the warrior-woman leading the next generation against the evil artificial-intelligence network Skynet.
I never knew that we needed a woman holding a bazooka before but this trailer proves it. Check out this photo from Vanity Fair.
Tough as nails is an understatement.
This time she’s joined again by Arnold Schwarzenegger but he’s not another T-800. He plays a “Model 101”. James Cameron described him as “a different Terminator than you’ve ever seen before, I mean literally he’s a different chassis number but he’s also a very different guy than you’ve seen before.”
Besides the original stars, Terminator: Dark Fate introduces Mackenzie Davis (Blade Runner 2049) as a new part-human soldier-assassin Terminator named Grace. She’s sent back in time to protect a woman named Dani Ramos played by Columbian actress Natalia Reyes (Cumbia Ninja). Ramos is targeted by Skynet.
Once again Skynet sends a Terminator to assassinate their target. This time it’s played by Gabriel Luna. Luna plays a new model Terminator and the name has been revealed: Rev 9. This is a big change from the previous models who all had a variation of T-800 (ex. T-1000). There’s also speculation that the name is a reference to the Bible Book of Revelations chapter nine which talks about smoke and a plague of locusts during the apocalypse.
Luna has the liquid metal ability from Terminator 2 but is now a black ooze that can replicate itself independent of the endoskeleton.
The Terminator franchise started back in 1984 and spawned a sequel Terminator 2: Judgement Day back in 1991. There are three loosely connected sequels: Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines in 2003, Terminator Salvation in 2009, and Terminator Genisys in 2015. For Terminator: Dark Fate, director Tim Miller (Deadpool) and producer James Cameron decided to make a direct sequel to T2. They decided to ignore the later films. None of the last three films included Hamilton. None have involved Cameron. All have featured Schwarzenegger in some form.
Observer caught up with the Miller, and he commented on taking over from original director James Cameron and the disappearance of Sarah’s son and Skynet target John Connor.
“I think Terminator fans will be happy,” he teased. “I just tried to make the best film we could. As a fan, I know there are things people want to see and questions they’d like answered right now. But I’d never ruin that by telling details ahead of the movie. I just think they’ll be happy with it.”
We’ll see but so far it looks 1000 times better than the last three movies.
