Recently Paramount showed the first trailer and clips for the sixth Terminator movie called Dark Fate. Plus, IGN dropped some exclusive photos.
While not directing the original franchise director James Cameron is producing the movie and worked closely with filmmaker Tim Miller (Deadpool). The two are relaunching the franchise with the new movie which will serve as a sequel to Cameron’s The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The new movie is ignoring the three sequels Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), Terminator Salvation (2009), and Terminator Genisys (2015). Paramount is basically ignoring the unpopular ones.
Before showing the footage Miller appeared on-stage and said they still have months of VFX work needed to complete the movie. He emphasized the footage isn’t final and may change before the release. They showed two clips from the movie and a reel.
“To say working on this movie was a labor of love is an enormous f**king understatement” director Tim Miller said getting choked up. “It was such a good f**king time.”
The first clip showcases Mackenzie Davis, 32, in Mexico City. Davis plays a “soldier-assassin” named Grace who time-travels to the past.
The fan-site Terminator Fans gives this description:
“The first scene we saw was Davis’ introduction. She’s a time traveler who arrives in Mexico City, promptly causing a car accident and falling off a bridge. After being rescued by a young couple, the police force surrounds them and starts making threats, prompting a still-nude Davis to start kicking a**. She neutralizes the threat and then takes her clothes from the male half of the couple, leaving him just his underwear. The scene establishes that Hamilton won’t be the only bada** woman in the film, as Davis kicks a ton of a** here.”
There have been rumors that Phillips plays some kind of cyborg because of the intricate symmetrical pattern on her skin. One report said, “According to insiders, Davis would be one of the new faces of the rebooted franchise, in the vein of Schwarzenegger’s robotic assassin”. That combined with the description of her surviving a massive car accident unharmed seems to support that.
Scott Wampler of BirthMoviesDeath said, “TERMINATOR footage features a fully nude Mackenzie Davis time-travel landing in Mexico City and beating the s**t out of a couple of cops. This is precisely as awesome as it sounds.”
The second clip shows Linda Hamilton, 62, interrupting a fight between Grace and the two Terminators.
Here’s the rundown from “Terminator Fans”:
“After that, we were treated to an action sequence that marks the return of Hamilton’s Sarah Connor, who rescues Davis (who seems resigned to be killed) and Reyes from Luna, pumping round after round into his body until he falls off a bridge right before reaching his targets. This time around, Hamilton is given the ‘I’ll be back’ line… and a bazooka.
“From there, it was an all-out assault on the senses as we caught glimpses of an underwater action scene, and one where Luna is hanging off a plane, Tom Cruise-style. Air, land, water — this movie has it all, and it looks like Miller pulled out all the stops and spared no expense. The footage ended with our first look at Arnold in all his Terminator glory.”
Gabriel Luna, 36, plays the T-1000. He’s an advanced form of the T-100 who turned into black ooze instead of silver liquid. The new Terminator can split in two and is “twice as deadly”.
A new picture of Arnold Schwazenneger, 71, was released. He’s coming back as a Terminator, but a T-800 “Model 101”. He’s described as “a different Terminator than you’ve ever seen before, I mean literally he’s a different chassis number but he’s also a very different guy than you’ve seen before.”
“I pointed out that the outer covering (of the Terminator) was actually not synthetic, that it was organic and therefore could age, Cameron had told Deadline back in 2014 for Terminator: Genesys.
Columbian actress Natalia Reyes, 32, plays an undisclosed character named Dani Ramos. Her role was described in a casting call as “a young woman in her early 20s from Mexico City. She was brought up in a working-class neighborhood, is independent and believes strongly in family. She’s more street-smart than book smart and is a woman who always manages to find a ray of light even in the darkest of circumstances.”
Miller raved about her saying, “Natalia is wonderful — when you read the script you might think, ‘Oh, she’s not a warrior or a soldier or anything exciting like that,’ or worry perhaps that she might be overshadowed by the other four — but absolutely not. She’s amazing, a-ma-zing.”
Diego Boneta, 28, plays Miguel Ramos. Even less is known about his character but he does share a last name with Natalia. Maybe they’re brothers or cousins?
Everyone that’s seen the Terminator: Dark Fate clips say they’re amazing with Germain Lussier of io9 saying the movie “looks very different but extremely cool”
