I’d love to hear what you think of the Internet’s greatest moments in this week’s “Geek Bits.”
By the Way…
There’s a new Geek Twins coming at the end of the month.

9. Zoe Saldana Does Sci-Fi Because It Has Stronger Female Characters – Your move, other genres. (The Mary Sue)
Sci-fi isn’t the only thing she’s done,
but Saldana’s past and future work on Avatar and its sequels, Star
Trek, and now as Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy cement her as a part of the genre. Why does she seem to lean towards these movies? She answered:
I like being in space because there are
better parts for women in space. I don’t have to subject myself to just
being the love interest or playing a character that doesn’t feel
relevant to the story or playing a woman that doesn’t feel like an
actual depiction of a real woman. When I read films in space and I’m
working with these kinds of filmmakers there’s a neutral sense to the
way they develop characters. It makes me feel very significant, very
relevant and very excited.

Apparently, Batman wins because he is “way more smarter.”
6. Bryan Singer Teases ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Script After ‘Days of Future Past’ Milestone
(via Variety)
Following “X-Men: Days of Future Past’s” box office milestone, director Bryan Singer is teasing the next film in the ever-growing franchise.
5. ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Website Offers Galactic Travel Tips (via /Film)
Put in your address and you’ll get a virtual trip into space!
A new website advertising Guardians of the Galaxy
is guised as a galactic travel service, and it’s a company that has
deep confidence in the appeal of its services. Galaxy Getaways promises a
dream vacation, and the company’s website offers the chance to use
street view to explore a couple of Guardians locations. There
are a couple of minor games to play, and pages revealing quite a few fun
details of the worlds we’ll see in the film.
4. Zack Snyder’s Explanation For Batman V. Superman’s “V” Is So, So Dumb (via io9)
The director can’t say exactly how the
relationship between the two superheroes evolves, “but suffice it to
say there is a ‘v’ in between their names” in the movie title”, Snyder
says. He explains that having the “v” instead of “vs.” is a way “to
keep it from being a straight ‘versus’ movie, even in the most subtle
way.”
3. Guillermo del Toro Reveals PACIFIC RIM 2 Details (via GeekTyrant)
It just keeps getting better. Here’s what del Toro told Wall Street Journal about Pacific Rim 2:
“We are three years away, so to spoil
anything would be fantastically silly of me. What I can tell you:
[screenwriter Zak Penn] and I really went in, we started with
[screenwriter Travis Beacham] about a year and a half ago, kicking
ideas back and forth. And, admittedly, I said to Zak, let’s keep
kicking ideas till we find one that really, really turns the first
movie on its ear, so to speak. (…) It was hard to create a world that
did not come from a comic book, that had its own mythology, so we had
to sacrifice many aspects to be able to cram everything in the first
movie.
Namely, for example “the Drift” (editor’s note: the neural link between
pilots of the giant robots, or jaegers), which was an interesting
concept. [Then there was] this portal that ripped a hole into the
fabric of our universe, what were the tools they were using? And we
came up with a really, really interesting idea. I don’t want to spoil
it, but I think at the end of the second movie, people will find out
that the two movies stand on their own. They’re very different from
each other, although hopefully bringing the same joyful giant
spectacle. But the tenor of the two movies will be quite different.”

1. SPOILERS! Will ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ Feature Original Trilogy Character Flashbacks? (via Screen Rant) SPOILERS!
The latest (unsubstantiated) report comes from the UK’s Daily Mail – building off a prior report from Latino Review
– and suggests that Carrie Fisher‘s daughter, Billie Lourd, will appear
in Episode 7 as a young Princess Leia. It was originally believed that
Lourd would simply be given a cameo in the film but The Daily Mail‘s
report suggests that, even if her screen time remains brief, fans will
be treated to at least one Leia flashback.
According to The Daily Mail post:
- Lourd will feature in flashback scenes as a younger version of Princess Leia.
- Director J.J. Abrams is said to have chosen her to play a young
version of her mother’s character because of their visual similarities. - A source told The Sun newspaper: “Billie flew into the UK to join her mother earlier this month.”
- She will even have her hair tied up in Princess Leia-style buns.
- Carrie backed the move as she wanted somebody in her family to play her most famous role.

Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) [Not Recommended]
(Source) |
Official Synopsis: “A mechanic
(Mark Wahlberg) and his daughter (Nicola Peltz) make a discovery that
brings down Autobots and Decepticons – and a paranoid government
official (Kelsey Grammer) – on them. A semi-reboot of the series featuring a new human cast and
both new and returning Transformers characters. Peter Cullen will once
gain voice Optimus Prime .”Imagine if Michael Bay walked into a movie studio and said,
“I’ll do another Transformers movie as long as I don’t have to deal
with all those useless plot points and characters.” This movie is
nothing but a series of slow motion explosions followed by gratuitous
shots of expensive cars and pretty women. The worst part about the
cheesecake in this film is they make a point of emphasizing that Tessa
Yeager is only 17 (played by 19-year-old
Nicola Peltz). This is while she jiggles around in short shorts and
high heels. She looks great, but I felt like a perv. My wife thought
Mark Wahlberg was the best part of the film, but I can’t think of a
more uninspiring character. The Dino-Bots, which are the main reason I
wanted to watch this film show up at the end and there’s not a single
explanation of where they come from, why they don’t talk and why they
look like dinosaurs. Except for the two-headed Pteradon which doesn’t
exist anywhere but Bay’s head. One good thing is they brought Frank
Welker, who voiced the animated
Megatron, back to play the voice of the evil robot Galvatron.
A
worthless film that cashes in on the fact that we’d pay to see anything
with giant robots hitting each other. Now think about the fact that
it’s made over $400 million worldwide.

I want those glasses!
Strong female characters in science fiction. I believe it. I think Ripley set the trend, especially in Aliens.
Considering what he's turned down, Del Toro must really love Pacific Rim and the idea of giant monsters and giant robots to do another movie. Then again, don't we all love them?
At first I read, the Geek Twins was coming to the end, I re-read it again… Transformers was awful, my wife wanted to see it… heck I even wanted to see it.. in the end it wasn't even worth "robot" moments. I feel asleep in the last 25 minutes, I missed the best parts. Ha, there were no best parts… that is sad!
I'm glad that spec fiction has so many strong female characters. Wish that were the case in all genres!
That would be scary Jeremy! I forgot to mention the excruciating running time of almost 3 hours.
Yeah del Toro loves Pacific Rim! It must be had dream to make a movie about robots and monsters hitting each other. You're right. We all do love them Alex.
[geeky wrestling reference] Will Ric Flair be among the Four Horsemen?
The only way I got through the last Transformers movie was to fast forward all the boring human parts.
I like the pic of Superman in Gotham. August 23rd is too far away! I don't plan on seeing Transformers till it is out on video. I was like Jeremy, I misread the opening line as Geek Twins coming to and end at the end of the month.
Those glasses are awesome.
The reasoning for the 'v' in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is almost as lame as the title itself. Also Superman looks too serious in that picture. It's like I did something wrong and now he's glaring at me. What'd I do Supes? What'd I do?
