Encounters of Sherlock Holmes

I’ve been collecting volumes of Sherlock Holmes stories for over 20 years. I’ve read every Sherlock Holmes story ever written too many times to count. I have a deep love and familiarity with Sherlock Holmes, which is why I find it so annoying when I read a Sherlock Holmes story that feels nothing like one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s works.
In fact, I tend to avoid Sherlock books written by other authors because I usually find myself flinging the book away with disgust. This collection is nothing like that. The fact that it has one of the most faithful Sherlock Holmes stories I’ve ever read is amazing. The fact that it has 14 faithful Holmes stories is astonishing.
The book is a collection of new Sherlock Holmes stories written by writers in several genres from horror to steampunk. It was edited by George Mann, who also wrote one of the stories. Together they take Holmes from the familiar to the bizarre, and each step feels faithful to Conan Doyle’s vision.
It’s not a long book at 352 pages, but it’s a brisk read. I only found one or two of the stories lacking, but overall it was refreshingly well-written.
Is it perfect? No. I saw a couple of mysteries a mile away and some of the dialogue is weak in spots, but overall it’s worth reading. If you’re a fan of the master detective you’ll want to pick up a copy.

I'll have to read them, as I prefer the originals as well.
The closest I've come is reading "The Final Solution" by Michael Chabon. But I have the Complete Sherlock Holmes sitting on my Kindle to be read at some point. I suspect they're nothing like the Robert Downey Jr movies.

Benedict Cumberbatchs Sherlock is definitely one not to miss but I've never read Conan Doyles books. Peter Ustinov does a good Poirot with co-star David Nivan.
