We all know that play is essential for children. Play is vital for children’s development, and we incorporate it into their daily schedules naturally. Play is also beneficial for adults’ well-being, according to research, yet many of us don’t play enough anymore. There are lots of ways to play from video games to board games, movies to sports. Whatever form of play you prefer, making time for it can have significant benefits for your mental and physical well-being.
A great way to have fun with your friends without needing a screen is a classic board game. One of the oldest board games created is Monopoly. It’s one of my favorites and my family and I play a few different versions depending on our mood.
Monopoly is a multi-player economics board game where players roll two dice and trade properties, collecting rent and money through Chance and Community Chest cards and tax squares. The game has become a part of international popular culture, with over 103 countries licensed and printed in 37 languages. It is derived from Lizzie Magie’s “The Landlord’s Game”, which aimed to promote Henry George’s economic theories about taxation. Monopoly has sold 275 million copies worldwide as of 2015.
Recently I came across the site Toynk and they have dozens of Monopoly games. From anime to classic science-fiction television shows. Here are the geekiest Monopoly games you can find on Toynk. Please note that most of these games can only be purchased in the United States.

This game is full of in-jokes. The Monopoly game features 22 locations from the show like “Mom’s Friendly Robot Company”, Zapp Brannigan’s spaceship “The Nimbus”, and Wong Ranch. The tokens replace the standard ones like the top hat with Bender, Seymour, Brain Slug, What If Machine, Planet Express Ship, and Hypnotoad (“All hail the Hynotoad!”). Finally, the Chance cards now say “Good News, Everyone!” and the Community Chest cards are called “Attention Puny Humans!”.

Super Mario, also known as Super Mario Bros. and Mario, is a platform game series created by Nintendo, featuring their mascot, Mario. The series, which has over 20 games, is set in the fictional Mushroom Kingdom and features Mario as the main character, often accompanied by his brother Luigi and other characters. The games have simple plots, with Mario and Luigi rescuing Princess Peach from Bowser. The first game, Super Mario Bros., was released in 1985 and established the core gameplay concepts, including power-ups and special powers. The series has sold over 380 million copies worldwide, making it the fifth-bestselling video game series, behind the larger Mario franchise, Tetris, Pokémon, and Call of Duty.

In this edition, houses and hotels are now Toad’s houses and Princess Peach’s castles. What’s more the utilities are reimagined for Bowser Jr. and Magikoopa. Description: Fly through the 26th century on a Firefly-class spaceship as you pass “GO” and collect 200 credits. Fans of the popular TV show Firefly can buy, sell, and trade locations and planets from the Firefly Universe in this unique edition of MONOPOLY.
Joss Whedon, who founded Mutant Enemy Productions, is the creator of the American space western drama television series Firefly. The exploits of the renegade crew of Serenity, a “Firefly-class” starship, are the focus of the television series, which is set in the year 2517, following the arrival of mankind in a new star system. On September 20, 2002, the Fox network hosted the Firefly debut in the United States. After 11 of the 14 produced episodes had been broadcast, it was canceled. The series had great DVD sales when it was first released, and despite having a brief run, it has a sizable following. The show was listed as No. 5 on TV Guide’s list of 60 shows that were “Cancelled Too Soon” in 2013.
The series’ success following its airing inspired Whedon and Universal Pictures to create Serenity, a 2005 movie that continues the series’ plot. The Firefly series was later adapted into comic books and a role-playing game.
Like many of the themed Monopoly games, the parts have been renamed. As a result, the Houses are renamed Settlements, and Hotels are now called Towns. Additionally, the tokens are now ships like Alliance Gunship, Thunderbird-Class Surveyor, Reaver Ship, Serenity, I.A.V. Dortmunder, and Brutus. The real fun comes in the deeds to obscure places like Sihnon and Beylix. Finally, the Chance and Community Chest Cards have been renamed “Gorram!” and “Shiny!”

6. Nintendo Mario Kart Monopoly Board Game
Description: This sequel to the Monopoly Gamer board game joins forces with Nintendo Mario Kart characters and elements. Move around the gameboard as Mario, Princess Peach, Luigi, or Toad; buy iconic Mario Kart properties such as Bowser’s Castle, and Rainbow Road. Pass Go to trigger a race from Mario Kart Cup, dodge banana peel tokens, toss shells, and collect Coins. A Super Star space activates special abilities and rolling the Power-Up Die adds a special boost. Winning in this game is all about winning races! Who will end up with the coveted Grand Prix card? When the final race is over, the player with the highest score wins! Includes gameboard, 4 Character tokens, 4 Character cards, 4 Reminder cards, 8 Grand Prix cards, 16 Title Deed cards, 5 Banana tokens, 1 Numbered Die 1 Power-Up die, 90 coins, and game guide. For 2-4 players.
Nintendo created and released the Mario Kart video game brand, a collection of kart racing titles. Players race go-karts while utilizing a variety of power-ups. The majority of the Mario series characters and courses are included, along with those from other video game series like The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, F-Zero, and Splatoon.
Super Mario Kart, a financial and critical success, served as the Super Nintendo Entertainment System’s introduction to the franchise in 1992. There are fourteen games in the Mario Kart series, including six for home consoles, three for portable devices, four for arcades co-developed with Namco, and one for smartphones. The series has sold more than 164.43 million copies worldwide.
Park Place and Boardwalk aren’t on this gameboard. The redesigned board features places like Bowser’s Castle and Rainbow Road instead. Additionally, when a player lands on the Boost Pad spot, it enables them to travel across the board more quickly. In the original gameplay, if any players declare bankruptcy (aside from the winner), the game is ended. But in Mario Kart Monopoly the goal is to race for the highest score. Players gather and pay in coins rather than dollar bills. Additionally, each token has a special Super Star power that can be used when it touches down over the Super Star area. Move around the gameboard with fun tokens like Mario, Princess Peach, Luigi, or Toad.
A fun and unique feature of this Monopoly variation is the banana peels. One banana peel token is distributed to each player. A banana peel can be thrown on any surface. Another player is essentially prevented from moving while still activating the action of that place when they land on a location with a banana peel. If you threw a banana peel on the “Go to Jail” slot, for instance, anyone who passes that space will be required to stop and will actually go to jail. It goes without saying that you must avoid these tough banana peels at all costs.
Play the Nintendo Mario Kart game on a table! Wahoo! I’m the winner!

1. Clobberin’ Time #4
- Publisher: Marvel Comics
- Writer: Steve Skroce
- Artist: Steve Skroce
- Cover Artist: Steve Skroce
- Official Summary: Ben Grimm has been banished to the bottomless pit of interstitial space between realities. There, he finds an unlikely ally in DOCTOR DOOM. DOOM has also been a victim of the new villain OGDU FRAIZE, the PSYCHOPOMP. Together, they plan their escape with the help of the banished Watcher, TUVAH TU.
- Review: The Thing and Doctor Doom collaborate to set the stage for Clobberin’ Time’s conclusion, as they are forced to survive a multiversal emptiness together while preparing to face the Psychopomp. Skroce’s attention to little things (such as what one eats in a multiversal emptiness) adds a touch of levity to such vast undertakings. The issue lacks the jagged waves of baddies that made previous issues such a visceral thrill to read, but there is still enough of action, and the revelation of Tuvah Tu’s connection to this narrative makes for a fantastic splash. Clobberin’ Time is ready to go out with a bang, with the ultimate fight planned.

Marooned on a comet in uncharted space, the Man of Steel reflects on his humble Smallville origins as crushing emotional fatigue threatens to end his journey back—trauma which results in Lois’s struggle to reconnect with the virtual stranger in her own home.
- Review: Superman: Lost is a Superman story that explores how far to go to keep civilization together when members of society want to exist in a different world than everyone else. The backdrop is rich in possibilities, and Superman is confronted with a series of ethical quandaries concerning the meaning of liberty and salvation, many of which are thinly veiled references to contemporary political battles. Superman’s blunder gives him a vulnerable moment, reminding readers that even an invincible entity may make a sacrifice. Throughout the issue, Pagulayan delivers fantastic images; not only do the characters look amazing but the action and environments are stunning and grab the imagination. This is an engrossing depiction of a foreigner in a strange land who is still looking for truth and justice.

Furthermore, giving Gwen her own “Clone Saga” is the chef’s kiss. Her new foe has reason to despise her, and the great reveal of how Doctor Lyla Bennett pulled off her plan is very astonishing.

5. Static Team-Up: Anansi #1
- Publisher: Milestone
- Writer: Evan Narcisse
- Artist: Charles Stewart III
- Cover Artist: Nikolas Draper-Ivey
- Official Summary: In a story set before the events of Static: Shadows of Dakota, the Static Shock animated series fan-favorite African superhero Anansi pays a visit to Dakota City, investigating a supernatural disturbance…but he’s going to need Static’s help to explore the occult side of the Milestone Universe!
- Review: Static Team-Up: Anansi #1 presents the DC Comics version of Anansi, another iconic character from the Static Shock animated series. This is a fun, albeit lightweight, team-up issue written by Evan Narcisse and illustrated by Chris Stewart III that introduces Anansi into the DC universe with a new set of powers that are a little more abstract. The connection between Anansi and Static is quick, but the comic knows not to linger on the set-up and instead jumps right into the action. Stewart’s painting is more grounded than Nikolas Draper-Ivey’s, yet it works well with the plot. A solid superhero comic that will hopefully lead to the Milestone universe expanding.

In order to defeat Joker Inc., Batman Incorporated may have to cross a line the group promised never to cross.
- Review: Batman Incorporated #9 is another strong issue in an improving series, with Ed Brisson and John Timms hitting their stride. It’s a suspenseful, fascinating issue, but with so many people, it frequently feels like we’re only getting a few pages with each of them. As the story progresses, it will be intriguing to see how close each member of Batman Inc. comes to crossing the line, because the Joker’s test and the repercussions for failing will be severe. This is a fantastic issue, but it needs that extra pinch of special next issue to completely impress.

Do not miss this capstone to a record-breaking run as Kelly Thompson puts her final fingerprints on Earth’s Mightiest Hero! FINAL ISSUE | LEGACY #184
- Review: Captain Marvel #50 is a unique modern comic series that has lasted four years. Kelly Thompson has done an excellent job with this series, and Carol fans have had much to enjoy over the previous four years. It brings all of Thompson’s basic aspects together one last time, allowing each character to have a wonderfully thought-out and executed moment. Captain Marvel #50 is an appropriate celebration of who Carol has become and who she has influenced during Kelly Thompson’s remarkable run. Captain Marvel #50 is undoubtedly somber at moments, but it’s also fantastically humorous and hopeful, and it’s a lovely end to what will be remembered as a legendary run on the character.

- Cover Artist: Xermanico
- Official Summary: NICE GUYS FINISH FIRST / RISE OF THE REVENANT QUEEN, PART TWO Hal Jordan’s homecoming is off to a rocky start! Carol Ferris is this close to firing him from the job he’s only just begged his way into, his power ring isn’t exactly working right, and off in the shadows, Sinestro, the architect of Hal’s current crisis, is waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Plus, the hard-hitting “John Stewart: War Journal” backup series from writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson and artist Montos heats up as the Guardian John Stewart and his team, the Watchtower, fall under siege from a mysterious new threat!
- Review: Green Lantern #2 is one of DC’s most recent must-reads. It is a character-driven novel that captivates the reader with its familiarity and focus on the complexities of Hal Jordan’s character and relationships. This issue showcases Jeremy Adams’ humorous, compassionate side of comic writing, which is easy to read while yet delivering a delightful plot and getaway for fans. Xermanico’s artwork is lovely, colorful, and cheerful, with wonderful details and an awesome visual tone, whereas Montos’ artwork is magnificently dark and tragic, with gloomy visual moments of John at home. This issue is an excellent starting point for any new Green Lantern fan interested in learning more about the character.

10. Star Trek #9
- Publisher: IDW Publishing
- Writer: Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing
- Artist: Mike Feehan
- Cover Artist: Ramon Rosanas
- Official Summary: After a surprise encounter with the adrenaline-jacked Red Path during their infiltration of the hidden Cardassian facility, the Theseus’ crew must recover the Orb of Destruction – and make it out alive – if they’re to put a stop to Kahless’ bloody reign. But with Captain Sisko standing trial on Cardassia Prime with Commander Data by his side, can his crew succeed when they are divided?
- Review: Star Trek #9 is the penultimate issue of the series’ second story arc, and it feels like an incredible Star Trek movie entering its third act. The two plots balance each other nicely, with neither the seriousness of Sisko’s side nor the levity and Crusher’s overtaking the other. Mike Feehan and Manuel Bracchi acquit themselves well, with one moment in particular of Sisko awaiting Cardassian judgment bringing the weight of the moment to bear on both character and reader. It’s a compelling read that should delight Star Trek fans.

2. Superman: Lost #4
- Publisher: DC Comics
- Writer: Christopher Priest, Carlo Pagulayan
- Artist: Carlo Pagulayan
- Cover Artist: Carlo Pagulayan
- Official Summary: BOOK FOUR: THE EDGE OF FOREVER – Can even Superman withstand being pushed past the point of emotional and psychological endurance?

- Official Summary: THE END OF GWEN? Spider-Gwen is imprisoned, and the only hope she has is relying on her very own clones! But is it too late? As Lyla gears up to act out her final revenge against Gwen. One that will affect the entire multiverse!
- Review: Shadow Clones arrives just as Gwen Stacy’s popularity is at an all-time high, courtesy of the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

6. Batman Incorporated #9

Thousands of lives are at stake as Joker, the Tap Dance Man, Corvus Cawl, the Ghoul, Alpaca, Dusty Bronco, and Dai Laffyn roll out their twisted plan of chaos and mayhem.

I like the idea of Monopoly but whatever version you play can get tiresome pretty quick. If they made a Transformers one that would probably be neat but I’d probably keep it in the box.
