Why We’re Excited About Agent Triplett in AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

    Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cast

Find out about Agent Triplett’s role in the new season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The second season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs today and with it comes the return of Agent Antoine “Trip” Triplett, played by B.J. Brett. He’s funny, he’s smooth and he’s a man of action. One of the things we love about the show is it’s celebration of diversity. Besides having a major Asian character in Agent Melinda May, played by Ming-Na Wen, they also introduced several other minority S.H.I.E.L.D. agents including Jasper Sitwell, played by Latino actor Maximiliano Hernández.

In an interview on Marvel, Brett said about some interesting things about his role.

He describes himself as a “big fan” even though he never watched the Marvel movies or read comic books because his parents wouldn’t let him watch anything violent. When he got the role he had to go watch all the Marvel movies in order and fell in love with them.

Because my parents never let me watch anything that was violent growing up, so I didn’t get a chance to jump on the bandwagon of the comic books and all the different characters and everything. Once I auditioned for it and I booked it, my agent was like, “Hey, you booked Marvel. You booked ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’” [Then] I started doing my homework. When I had to go watch all the Marvel movies in order, I’m like, “Oh my god, are you freaking kidding me?” I’m calling my mom telling her, “I’m so mad at you for not putting me on to this way earlier than now.” I’m showing up to set as a big fan. I’m showing up to set as a fan of Trip, and just to come into an already huge hit because Marvel’s just huge! Being able to interact with some of the characters and having a good time with it, I’m pinching myself everyday.

Brett doesn’t know if Trip’s going to get together with Jemma Simmons because the writers haven’t told him yet.

As a fan, I would love to see that happen. Elizabeth [Henstridge] is a sweetheart, everybody in the show is just so awesome. But the thing is [the writers] never let you know what’s going to happen until you show up for the read through for the next episode. So you’re like, “Are they going to elaborate on this?” It’s so funny between the characters, especially with the fanbase, because some people are like, “TripSimmons, we love that!” And then other people are like, “H**l no! FitzSimmons. We want FitzSimmons! Forget Trip! I love Trip but it’s FitzSimmons, not TripSimmons.” It’s going to be interesting how it plays out in the second season. It’ll definitely be interesting.

There are even rumors that Trip has a role in Avengers: Age of Ultron because of some on-set pics with Brett.

Here’s a clip from the first episode of the season which features Trip, May, Skye (Kyle MacLachlan) and Isabelle Hartley (Lucy Lawless) on a covert operation.

The season premiere of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., titled “Shadows” airs tonight (September 23) at its new time, 9:00 p.m. ET on ABC.

Here’s the official summary: “Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team are now wanted fugitives with limited resources, but that’s not stopping them from keeping the world safe from powerful and unseen threats everywhere. However, with new members they hardly know, will S.H.I.E.L.D. ever be trusted again?”

What do you think about Agent Trip? If you’ve seen the show, who’s your favorite character on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’? What are your predictions for the season 2 of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’?

Be cool if he was in the next Avengers movie. (Be cool if some of the Avengers started having cameo roles on the show as well.) Interesting he didn't get to read the comics growing up.

Agent Triplett is a terrific addition to the show, and it can never have too much diversity onscreen. My hope is the producers continue to make Trip an integral part of the team dynamic – as well as the series mythology.

The show really came into its own at the end of last season.
I have stayed away from Avengers spoilers, but it would be nice to see the TV agents on the big screen.

Trip was a lot better than Ward.

Trip is boring as hell (so as Ward), he doesn't have a personality
