    Chinese-American actor Lucy Liu

Find out more about one of geekdom’s favorite actors: Lucy Liu!

Recently my brother did a post on the 10 hottest Asian women of sci-fi, so she’s in good company. Read on to find answers to common questions about her and see hot Lucy Liu pictures.

    Lucy Liu’s Ethnicity

Every time someone sees a pair of slanted eyes they assume they’re Chinese. Shame on you. So, what’s Lucy Liu’s Ethnicity? Despite common misconceptions, Lucy Liu is American. Ok, she’s Chinese-American. So, in this case, you’d be right to assume she’s Chinese.

Her parent’s, Cecelia and Tom, were immigrants from Beijing and Shanghai, China and met in New York. The 44-year-old was born December 2, 1968, in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York, United States.

Nevertheless, she says, “Being Chinese, I grew up with racism all the time.” Typical.

Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003) Lucy Liu as O-Ren Ishii

Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003) Lucy Liu as Alex Munday

    Lucy Liu Movies

One example of stereotyping is in her casting. Liu’s been cast as an emotionless “Dragon Lady” (Ally McBeal), a martial arts star (Charlie’s Angels, Kung Fu Panda, The Man with the Iron Fists and Kill Bill), and a mysterious woman with ties to the Chinese mafia (Payback).

“I wish people wouldn’t just see me as the Asian girl who beats everyone up, or the Asian girl with no emotion.” Liu said in an interview, “People see Julia Roberts or Sandra Bullock in a romantic comedy, but not me. It [becomes], ‘Well, she’s too Asian’, or, ‘She’s too American’. I kind of got pushed out of both categories. It’s a very strange place to be. You’re not Asian enough and then you’re not American enough, so it gets really frustrating.”

    Lucy Liu Relationships

Is Lucy Liu married? Lucy Liu isn’t married but was engaged to Zach Helm. Who has been one of her boyfriends? Well, she’s been linked to George Clooney, Will McCormack, and Wladimir Klitschko. Now, who’s Lucy Liu’s boyfriend? We have no idea. Lucy Liu is dating an unknown silver-haired guy in New York.

What do you think of Lucy Liu? Do you think she’s stereotyped as an Asian Actor?

In Hollywood anyone who isn't white gets stereotyped.

    2. DAVID WALSTON on October 14, 2013 1:57 pm

You think about how far America has come in the last few decades. One would only assume that Hollywood would be far more tolerant than they are.

    3. Alex J. Cavanaugh on October 14, 2013 1:58 pm

I've never thought she was that attractive. However, the woman who played Boomer/Athena was very sexy, Michelle Yeoh is also attractive.

    4. Tony Laplume on October 14, 2013 2:03 pm

Well, now she's playing exactly the kind of role she's been hoping for, so good for Lucy!

    5. Liesel Hill on October 14, 2013 3:10 pm

She's never been a favorite of mine, but I base that on her acting skills. I'm sure it's difficult to deal with the way actors get pigeonholed, though. I sympathize.

    6. MPax on October 14, 2013 10:00 pm

I think she's a good actress. It's nice seeing more ethic groups on the television.

    7. Yolanda Renee on October 15, 2013 12:10 am

I agree with David Walston. Truly a shame – but I think she's wonderful – I love watching her, no matter the role. Kill Bill – awesome!!!!!! One of my favorites!

    8. John Garrett on October 17, 2013 3:17 pm

I always loved seeing Lucy Liu on screen. Don't forget to plug her show "Elementary". She's awesome on there and it's not a stereotypical "Asian" role. Playing Watson alongside Sherlock Holmes is definitely a great part.

I want to bugger Lucy Liu (as the bird was in 1986 when the bird was 18, not as the bird is now obviously).

    10. teddy crescendo on October 19, 2013 6:07 pm

I cant believe Lucy Liu is pushing 45 (the bird is the same age as Pauline Hickey ! ! !).
