Recap Resident Alien (2025): S4E04 – “Truth Hurts”

In a flashback 20 years ago, Teenage Ben (Lukas Goas) hosts a rager at the Hawthorne house. Teenage D’arcy (Olga Petsa) confesses her love for Ben, and they kiss. Teenage Judy (Gwenna Cooper) accidentally stumbles out of the door, and the cops are on their way.

In the present, Harry Vanderspeigle (Alan Tudyk) is now in his human form. He struggles with his attraction to Heather (Edi Patterson) in her blue avian form. She casually mentions that she killed the Mantid. He proposes that she return to her human form for romantic reasons. Asta Twelvetrees (Sara Tomko) and D’Arcy Bloom (Alice Wetterlund) inform Kayla (Sarah Podemski) about the alien madness, including Heather killing the Mantid. Kayla is irritated and almost spills the alien secret to Jay (Kaylayla Raine). D’arcy and Kayla plan to bury the Mantid at Harry’s cabin, but Kayla chooses not to. Sheriff Mike Thompson (Corey Reynolds) describes the Mantid to Deputy Liv Baker (Elizabeth Bowen), who captures its likeness shockingly well. She’s wasting her talents on crime-fighting. Additionally, Liv and Mike discuss an alien being behind the murders and a Sasquatch sighting. They decide to make sure Peter, the cyborg Terminator, remains hidden.

Asta and D’arcy visit Harry, who has bird alien kiddos. Harry literally kicks Bridget out of the house, and Heather “breastfeeds” by vomiting a green smoothie into a bag. Honestly, I had a hard time watching this scene, so I’m glad they didn’t drag it on tooooo long. They engage in foreplay, putting on a show, with Patterson and Tudyk being hilariously electric together.

Asta and D’arcy hire Judy Cooper (Jenna Lamia) to dig a grave for the Mantid. She’s surprisingly good at it from her time working at a cemetery.

Meanwhile, Mayor Ben Hawthorne (Levi Fiehler) and Kate (Meredith Garretson) speculate on D’arcy’s involvement with aliens. Kate suspects she’s an alien. They finally decide that she was pregnant, like her. Mike and Detective Lena Torres (Nicola Correia-Damude) discuss their belief in aliens and witnessing an alien feasting on a deer. This leads to a rift between Mike and Lena, who is skeptical about the alien’s involvement.

The next day, Ben and Kate visit “The 59,” discussing the alien-shaped elephant in the room. D’Arcy pretends to be offended by the Hawthornes’ conversation about Daisy’s existence. But she’s secretly panicking.

Asta finds Harry in his office, feeling cold and unworthy of Heather. She encourages him to tell his girlfriend the truth about losing his alien energy and calls out his reliance on therapy sessions to avoid facing patients.

D’arcy reveals that Ben and Kate know their baby exists, and Harry reveals he knows. How? Turns out Kate opened up about her child during a hypnosis session. D’arcy believes they should tell the Hawthornes about Daisy, but Asta and Harry argue that the Greys will abduct the child again.

At the same time, Liv and John set up a camera at the spot where Mike saw the Mantid. Heather surprises Harry with dinner, and they embrace, despite her parents’ being racist (very racist). Heather’s father flies in and attacks Harry. Meanwhile, Ben confronts D’arcy about the truth, but she remains resolute and doesn’t divulge Daisy’s location. D’arcy calls Judy for a drink. Hilariously, she’s been in the bar throughout the story.

Harry and Heather have a heart-to-heart after their dad’s violent confrontation. He believes she deserves to be her true self with someone who loves her. She understands and asks him to recite his favorite poem in his people’s language. This moment is surprisingly touching and shows real growth in our resident alien.

Mike and Lena mend fences, and he warns her to exercise caution in the murder investigation. Asta comforts Harry, experiencing his first heartbreak as a dairy allergy-prone human. She’s such a good friend.

On the other side of town, Kate and Max are reunited after a shopping trip. He goes to get ice cream with Sahar. Kate buys Girl Scout Cookies, but one of them hands her the chip from her neck. It’s the Greys. They tell her they’re watching her and can track her without the chip. They’re always watching.

    What an ending.

Overall: Watch Resident Alien (2025): S4E04 – “Truth Hurts”

In “Truth Hurts,” the fourth episode of Resident Alien Season 4, Harry experiences the agonies of love as a result of speaking the truth. It turns out that being a human and navigating a relationship with an alien and your alien offspring is difficult. Although the trip moves a little more slowly, it develops our main character relationships and, at least for Kate, lays the groundwork for future storylines. Additionally, Edi Patterson and Alan Tudyk make the perfect comedy duo.

This is a wonderful episode and helps show why this is one of the best sci-fi shows of recent years. Not as good as last week, so I’m giving it 3 1/2 stars.

    3.5 out of 5 stars
