David Rapoza Brings Our Childhood to Life [Images]

We don’t normally feature individual artists on Geek Twins, but David Rapoza is going to have to be an exception. It started with a featured post on Reddit with Rapoza’s portrait of April O’Neal. That included a link to Rapoza’s gallery on Deviantart, and it blew me away. He specializes in re-interpreting classic cartoon characters like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Masters of the Universe. Not only is his painting artwork incredible, but his attention to detail makes them almost photorealistic. It’s like the characters come to life. I wanted to pick just one or two to focus on, but there are so many great ones that we’ll do a retrospective. Click the images below to enlarge.

    TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

    April O’Neal
    Donatello
    Leonardo
    Raphael
    Shredder

    MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE

    Evil-Lyn
    Skeletor
    Mer-Man
    Trap-Jaw

    THUNDERCATS

    Lion-O
    Cheetara

Believe it or not, these are only the tip of the iceberg. Check out his website to see more of his unique take on characters like the Venture Brothers, Akira, and World of Warcraft.

What did you think of the paintings?
