Women Geeks Love: Summer Glau [Images]

Summer Lyn Glau was born on July 24, 1981 in San Antonio, Texas. Her life started out in the direction of the stage as she trained as a ballet dancer for most of her childhood. After receiving a scholarship to a ballet company, Glau broke her toe, forcing her to shift her focus to acting.

After moving to LA in 2002, Glau’s first TV role as a ballerina on Angel caught the eye of Joss Whedon. That’s how she ended up getting her big break as River Tam on the sci-fi western, Firefly. Her role as the sexy but deadly cyborg Cameron in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles solidified her status as an icon among geekdom.

I’m constantly amazed and surprised by how good Summer Glau is. Perfect, astonishing characters full of life and realism, in each of her shows and movies.
Whatever role she’s played, and regardless of which was the first time you saw Summer perform, you knew at that moment you were seeing something special. The Mickey Mantle of acting. When she cried, you were crying with her in sympathy, when she was kicking ass you were cheering her on like nothing else, and when she was troubled you wanted to tell her it was going to be okay. That ladies and gentleman is what Summer Glau does with her varied roles. She doesn’t just act, she makes you believe.

She's incredibly hot! In fact she's too hot for a geeky girl

Loved her in Firefly! Saw a bit of her in Dollhouse, too, but I don't think I've seen her anywhere else…

well said Chris. she portrays the characters she plays so well that you are drawn right into the story.

Mmmm…Chris, I think that you, like myself and many guys out there turn to jelly as soon as we see an image of Ms. Glau. I know I sound like a love-struck teenager, but she truly is one of the most beautiful women ever to walk the planet. I agree with your sentiment though, that when you first see her, you know that here is somebody unsual, with special acting skills.
I think the reason that we cry with her in sympathy, and want to tell her everything will be okay when she is troubled, is because she personifies not only the epitome of femininity and beauty, but also, (and probably because of her beauty and femininity), often displays a certain vulnerability, even when playing the roll of a
      cyborg.
She is an excellent actor though, to put it simply. Of course, her outstanding beauty only adds to her ability to keep people (men especially, I suspect) riveted to their screens.
