Peter Mayhew stopped at Denver airport over lightsaber cane via @TheWookieeRoars Peter Mayhew, the actor that played Chewbacca in the Star Wars films, had his cane taken away at the airport because it looked like a lightsbaer. On his way home to Boyd Texas, the 7 foot tall actor had his cane seized by US Transportation Security Adminstration staff at Denver Airport and tweeted “Won’t allow me through the airport with me cane! Giant man need giant cane. Small cane snap like toothpick. Besides, my lightsaber is just cool. I’d miss it.” Fans of the 69-year-old actor, who needs…

Man of Steel (2013), Superman (Henry Cavill) See the best, and worst ways, companies are using the upcoming Superman movie, Man of Steel, to sell their products. Warner Bros. has over 100 global promotional partners and $160 million in collective promotional support for Man of Steel and it’s one of the biggest in Hollywood history. It’s not unusual for a blockbuster film to have cross-promotinal marketing, that is targeting customers of one product with a related product. Man of steel’s is the best, and worst, I’ve seen. “If done well, a promotional partnership with a major summer movie should spotlight…
After Earth (2013) Will Smith, M. Night Shyamalan What does M. Night Shyamalan have in common with the worst director since Ed Wood? One word: Profit. After Earth is a box office bomb, but surprisingly he’ll still make money. After Earth shares the distinction of being M. Night Shyamalan’s fourth straight dud and Will Smith’s first flop since Wild, Wild West. I’ll have to update my M. Night Shyamalan Chart of Descent. Interestingly enough, Business Week did a chart that shows that while his movies are getting torn to shreds by critics, they still make money. The Happening, made on…

Marvel’s the Avengers (2013) Leonard Maltin, film critic for Entertainment Tonight once said, “There’s no such thing as a surefire hit in Hollywood. But a franchise is as close to surefire as it gets.” In a world or sequels, prequels and reboots is there one series of films that you love? Just an FYI, I’m moving this week’s caption contest to next week and expanding the weekly poll to a monthly poll. In two weeks I’m adding a brand new ongoing feature. Why does Hollywood love movie franchises? “Whether it’s a prequel, a sequel or a remake, it’s simply much…

Through selective breeding, the dog has developed into hundreds of various breeds and have been called “Man’s Best Friend.” Some have given their lives, others have had robotic jaws and some are aliens. Read on to find the list of the greatest dogs ever known to the genre of science fiction…
What was my first Cosplay experience like at Phoenix ComicCon 2013? Good, bad and ugly…in a good way. So, Saturday I had my first experience dressing up for a convention (commonly known as “Cosplay”). Overall, it was great, but here are some things I learned from the experience. Plus, I’ll share some great pictures I took at the con. 1) Pick Something Easy. I chose a relatively easy costume. The second hardest part was finding the beanie, which I bought on eBay. The rest were just clothes I got from a thrift shop and an old pair of sneakers. The…

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), Hikaru Sulu (John Cho), Nyota Uhura (Zoe Saldana), , Mr. Spock (Zachary Quinto), Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), Pavel Chekov (Anton Yelchin),Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy (Karl Urban) , Montgomery “Scotty” Scott (Simon Pegg) Have you ever wondered which animal the crew of the Enterprise would be? Would Captain Kirk be a wolf or a rat? Would Uhura be a bird or a rabbit? Would Scotty be a pig or a fox? This week’s poll is a little off-beat, so I hope it goes well. Here’s the question: What animal would you pick to replace…
A rumor is going around that Michael B. Jordan will be playing the Human Torch in director Josh Trank’s reboot of Fantastic Four. This is news for one reason: it would cast a black actor in a traditionally white role. But this isn’t the first time ethnicities have changed when the character went on-screen. The practice is known as “Race Bending” and widely done in Hollywood for a bunch of reasons. Read on for the most bewildering race changes in genre movie history. #26 Perry White (Laurence Fishburne) in Man of Steel (2013) Original Ethnicity: Caucasian New Ethnicity: Black #25 Aang (Noah Ringer)…

Patton Oswalt’s Star Wars Fillibuster Patton Oswalt improvised a summary for the next Star Wars Episode VII for the television show Parks and Recreation (Season 5, Episode 19) and it was brilliantly animated by Isaac Moores. Oswalt’s an American stand-up comedian, writer, actor and voice actor. It’s funny that he coincidentally includes some of the ideas that I had for the next Star Wars film like Han Solo and Princess Leia breaking up, but I sure didn’t come up with adding Wolverine. Here’s the original video: via Kotaku, YouTube video uploaded by iZacLess What do you think of the video?…

Dr. Raymond Adamcik arrested as Captain America with burrito in pants Source “It could have been a ski mask. It could have been a bandanna. It could have been a hoodie. It just happens to be a Gumby costume,” San Diego police Detective Gary Hassen said. Some criminals wear a mask, but some decide to cosplay. What’s cosplay? Cosplay , short for “costume play,” is where people dress up as their favorite characters for conventions or fun. Just to clarify, I’m not talking about guys like The Dark Knight Rises theater shooter. That man is a sick individual. Some are funny,…
Double Dragon (1994) Mark Dacascos (Jimmy Lee), Alyssa Milano (Marian Delario), Scott Wolf (Billy Lee) Video games don’t make good movies because video games have bizarre concepts, poor stories and too much action. Last week John Carpenter, famous horror director of Halloween and other films, said he wants to make a movie from the video game Dead Space. “You know it’s great,” he said, “The first game was more – I guess it was like Alien – but not quite. It was a little different than that. I maintain that Dead Space would just make a great movie because you…

The Avengers (2012) Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) Which is your favorite Marvel film from the Cinematic Universe? With Iron Man 3 (2013) out, it’s time to look back at the “Marvel Cinematic Universe.” While there have been a bunch of films based on Marvel Comics characters, it was back in 2008 when they conceived of the idea of bringing them all together. When Marvel Studios began independently producing superhero films, they created “The Marvel Cinematic Universe” (MCU) which is a film franchise and shared fictional universe based on characters from Marvel Comics. Mirroring the comic books, the shared universe…

Robocop’s greatest reporter, Mario Machado, has died at 78. According to The LA Times obituary he had Parkinson’s disease and died from complications of pneumonia. But, to sci-fi fans, his greatest work was as Casey Wong in the three Robocop films. His…
Iron Man 3 Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) lying in the snow – Source The scene of 13 people falling out of Air Force One is, surprisingly, the least interesting scene in the film. But it’s a scene that symbolizes the whole movie. It’s about people being thrown into a dangerous situation with no protection and no safety net and surviving. The film succeeds by taking the characters, breaking them down and rebuilding them. In the end, it’s the movie that proves Tony Stark deserves to be a superhero. Iron Man 3, also known as Iron Man Three, is a…
