The “Decades of Destiny” tournament is officially underway! We’ve spent the last 48 hours simulating the First Four play-in games to see which “on-the-bubble” cult classics earned their spot in the field of 64. The fans have spoken, the power levels have been crunched, and we have our first set of winners.
The First Four: Who Survived the Cut?
Before the main bracket could begin, eight shows had to fight for the final #16 seeds. Here’s how the play-in games shook out:
1970s Region: (16) Quark narrowly defeated (16) Jason of Star Command. It seems the space-garbage crew’s incompetent luck was just enough to outlast the Saturday morning heroics.
1980s Region: In a battle of the spin-offs, (16) Galactica 1980 surged past (16) Manimal. Those flying motorcycles and time-traveling Vipers proved too much for a shapeshifter to handle.
1990s Region: (16) Seven Days pulled off a tight victory over (16) M.A.N.T.I.S. The ability to redo an entire week is the ultimate tactical edge in a tournament setting.
2000s Region: (16) Jericho held its ground against (16) Flash Gordon 2007. The post-nuclear survivalists from Kansas move on to face the island mysteries of Lost.
Round 1 Featured Matchup: (1) Star Trek: TNG vs. (16) Galactica 1980
Our first heavy-hitter matchup is a clash of two very different generations of space travel. The #1 seed, Star Trek: The Next Generation, is the heavy favorite with a massive Legacy Score of 87 and a Power Level of 95 (thanks to phasers and photon torpedoes).
However, Galactica 1980 isn’t going down without a fight. While their legacy is lower, they boast a Power Level of 85 due to their Battlestar fleet and time-travel capabilities.
Early Voter Sentiment:
So far, the Federation is holding a commanding lead in the polls, but a few “Wildcard” rolls could still cause a subspace interference that levels the playing field!
Cast Your Votes!
The polls are now open for the rest of the 1980s and 2000s Regions. Can ALF (#5) eat his way past Automan (#12)? Will Firefly (#3) fly circles around Dollhouse (#14)?
Current Live Matchups:
- (8) Alien Nation vs. (9) Beauty and the Beast
- (4) Quantum Leap vs. (13) Red Dwarf
- (2) Battlestar Galactica (2004) vs. (15) Andromeda
- (7) Stargate Atlantis vs. (10) The 4400
Head over to the voting page now to save your favorites! Results for the 1990s and 1970s regions will be posted this Friday.
