Two Surprising Marvel Characters Are Returning in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day”

In the 2026 movie, Mark Ruffalo and Michael Mando will play their former Marvel roles again.

Although it isn’t an Avengers film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is beginning to resemble one. We are aware that Jon Bernthal will be playing the Punisher again and that Tom Holland will be playing the titular webslinger. However, it appears that Michael Mando, who portrayed one of the antagonists in Holland’s first Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming, will also return as Mac Gargan, aka Scorpion. Mark Ruffalo will also play Bruce Banner/the Hulk.

The new cast members were revealed by the Hollywood Reporter. Furthermore, you have to assume that more are coming shortly because none of these are villains deserving of such a collaboration. This brand-new Spider-Man day, which started with a sneak peek at Spidey’s new suit, is nicely wrapped up with the news.

The film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi), began production this week and is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026. For a film this large, that’s a short turnaround, but it’s comparable to what Marvel Studios accomplished with Fantastic Four the previous year.

It’s unclear how these individuals all work together. Even though Ruffalo is bringing his large, green Avenger into the mix, we’re very certain that the movie is a more realistic, street-level Spider-Man flick. Avengers: Endgame, released in 2019, was the last time we saw Banner/Hulk in a major role. However, he has since made a few appearances. He played a significant part in the Disney+ series She-Hulk, made a brief appearance as an alternate version in Deadpool & Wolverine, and was in the end credits of Shang-Chi. Is he there to assist Peter Parker in battling a malevolent villain this time? Or will Banner provide some scientific assistance to Peter?

The addition of Scorpion is even more intriguing. In one of Peter’s first victories in Homecoming, he was last seen in prison with Michael Keaton’s character, the Vulture, who inquired about Spider-Man’s identity. You have to think that he still harbours that resentment and may even know the solution to the most important question of all. What on earth became of Vulture? When was the last time we saw him with Morbius?

In any case, this is an entertaining addition to the puzzle of the most anticipated Marvel film of the upcoming year. Are you thrilled?
