Recap Nautilus (2025): S1E01 – “Anahata”
The Nautilus series premieres on the high seas, with Humility Lucas (Georgia Flood) losing a card game to the crew in suspicious circumstances. The adventure begins when her ship is split in half by the Nautilus, with Captain Nemo (Shazad Latif) stating that he’ll take women and children, but not anyone working for the “East India Company.”
Then the show jumps back eight hours. In an inescapable prison, Nemo and others are slaves working on the submarine. Nemo helped design the engine, but has plans for a rebellion. Director Crawley (Damien Garvey) wants to take it out. Gustave Benoit (Thierry Frémont), another engineer, reveals the ship isn’t ready, but Crawley sets the timeline, forcing Nemo’s timeline to change.
More of the Company’s guards arrive, and they rush to get the Nautilus launched. Aadesh sacrifices himself to untie the Nautilus ropes. Crawley stabs Benoit, but he hides his injuries till after the escape. Nemo imprisons Crawley and the guards, saving Benoit.
Crawley manages to save his prisoners and escapes from Nemo’s ship, which he mistakenly thought was a Company ship. They survive, and Nemo realizes he should have killed them. Crawley sets a revenge mission, using Company money and power to get the Nautilus and Nemo dead. Captain Youngblood, who believes Humility is in trouble, helps Crawley in his mission. Crawley gathers information from Captain Millais and takes Youngblood to a new ship, the Dreadnought, to ensure the Nautilus is back in Company hands. He plans to use Captain Millais’s expertise to secure the Nautilus’s return.
Benoit agreed to work with Nemo and the crew to steal the Nautilus for exploration, stating that the ship was not intended for weaponry. Nemo had a deal to get the Nautilus to French waters and French safety, but this is not happening. Nemo wants to reach the northern seas first to find Viking treasure.
However, the Nautilus needs resupply and repairs, which become more challenging when power goes out and the ship sinks. Humility’s plan is uncertain, and Nemo may not listen to her plan.
Overall: Watch/Skip Nautilus (2025): S1E01 – “Anahata”
I enjoyed the first episode of Nautilus. It’s a steampunk adventure series that focuses on high adventure and freewheeling plot twists. Despite the occasional confusion, the series offers stimulating scenes, and the steampunk design details are amazing. The characters are likable, and the series maintains a loyalty to Verne. It’s an enjoyable and entertaining show.
