BET+ is stepping up its game with a new original sci-fi movie named Onyx (2025).

Onyx was acquired by BET+, becoming the first original science fiction movie to debut with BET Media Group.
Written, and directed by Stefano Milla the movie stars Jennifer Freeman, Sean Riggs, Tanjareen Thomas, Justice Lee, Ariane Andrew, and Nate Walker.
The official synopsis for Onyx is below:
Three friends try and escape the daily grind and support their friend recovering from a bad breakup by going on a rural Arizona adventure camp when they inadvertently get caught in an alien invasion.
The women notice their radio signals go down and the world is being prepared for an invasion.
Stefano Milla is best known for low-budget direct-to-streaming movies like Lunar Lockdown (2024), Alien Invasion: Rise of the Phoenix (2025), and a few Richard The Lionheart movies.
Science Fiction is a popular genre for the Black community. Within speculative narratives, Black speculative fiction—a broad phrase that encompasses genres such as science fiction and fantasy—focuses on themes of social transformation and Black experiences while frequently criticizing socioeconomic institutions. Using speculative narrative, it examines how Black people are impacted by technology and social systems, emphasizing their agency and the points where their lives cross.
For the first time, black stories and characters are being featured in horror and science fiction. Fans have been waiting a long time for this.
