Superman 2025: New Featurette Places Trust in Its Hero and James Gunn

Everyone understands that this is the beginning of a new slate of DC productions, as well as the superhero’s first solo film in almost a decade. Even before we saw a trailer or learned about the actors, expectations for James Gunn’s Superman film were sky-high.

To commemorate Superman Day (the character debuted on April 18, 1938 in Action Comics #1), Warner Bros. aired a featurette about the impending picture. If you’re interested in the film’s production, the video is worth watching; nonetheless, its main goal is to demonstrate how much the cast and producer Peter Safran believe in Gunn. Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane, says, “In James Gunn we trust!” in the end, which is already a sentiment in some spaces.

Gunn says that he loved the purity of Superman as a child.  When DC approached him years ago to direct a project he chose Suicide Squad because he couldn’t think of a way to do Superman.  “James didn’t know that Superman was in his future,” Safran said. “He wasn’t sure that that was the one he should be doing. And then he called me one day, and he said, ‘I have a way in… I know what I want to talk about.’

Almost everyone is coming into Superman with excitement or curiosity regarding Gunn’s intentions. For its stars, this picture provided an opportunity to work with a filmmaker with whom they had previously collaborated or whose work they simply enjoyed: both Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner) and Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor) appreciated Gunn’s screenplay and the “heart” found in his prior films. Others came on because they are fans of Superman and want to see what Gunn has in store for the present or future. Fillion, Edi Gathegi (Mr. Terrific), and Frank Grillo (Rick Flag Sr.) discuss its potential brilliance, with Grillo confidently declaring that it will be a “game changer.”

Several major sites are highlighted in the new Superman featurette, including the Fortress of Solitude and the Daily Planet, as well as a closer look at Lex Luthor’s armored warriors, which are designed very similarly to the Lexosuits from the comics. There is also the unveiling of the physical Superman robots, which demonstrates some of the excellent practical effects employed in the film. The clip also provides a deeper look at some of the major sites where the film was shot, as well as highlights of the Superman cast during their filming days.

David Corenswet added, “In James Gunn we trust and I think we can do it. “

Superman will open in cinemas and IMAX statewide on July 11, 2025, and internationally on July 9, 2025, released by Warner Bros. Pictures.
