According to an exclusive report by TheWrap, character actor Pruitt Taylor Vince has been selected to play an important role in James Gunn’s upcoming interpretation of Superman for the DC Universe reboot, titled “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.” Vince will portray the role of Jonathan Kent, also known as Pa Kent, who is Superman’s adoptive father. In the storyline, Jonathan Kent first encounters the superhero as a young boy, after he arrives on Earth via a Kryptonian vessel hidden in Kansas fields. The role, which is essential to Superman’s moral and ethical education, was previously played by Glenn Ford in the 1978 classic Superman and Kevin Costner in 2013’s Man of Steel.

Vince and Natalie Portman will co-star as series regulars on the tiny screen in the upcoming summer premiere of Lady in the Lake for Apple TV+. Vince has a long list of television credits that include appearances in True Blood, The Walking Dead, The Mentalist, Netflix’s Stranger Things, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., NBC’s Heroes Reborn, and Murder One, for which he won an Emmy. Among his notable cinematic credits are Gotti, opposite John Travolta, and Bird Box, starring Sandra Bullock.

Under Gunn’s direction, the remake, now in development, ushers in a new era for DC Studios. Superman’s ensemble cast features amazing casting decisions, such as David Corenswet taking on the famous Man of Steel role and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. In the large ensemble cast are characters such as Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho round out the cast. Wendell Pierce, the most recent hire, will assume the position of Daily Planet Editor in Chief Perry White.

The movie was previously named Superman: Legacy and Is now called Superman. Currently set for release on July 11, 2025, Superman is the first film in Gunn’s reboot of the DCEU.

What do you think of the casting so far? Are you looking forward to the reboot?
