Sam Raimi dispels rumors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) that he will be directing Avengers: Secret Wars (2027). The Multiverse Saga is still going strong, despite its ups and downs. Several new movies and television programs are planned to go deeper into the idea of parallel universes. There haven’t been many, if any, updates on Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) thus far as the MCU storyline continues to build toward the conclusion of Phase 5 before entering Phase 6.
The 64-year-old director was reportedly considered to direct Avengers 6 after helming Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. When asked if he will be working on any Marvel projects in the future, including Avengers: Secret Wars, the director of the 2000s Spider-Man movie trilogy took the chance to address the allegations in a recent interview with The Wrap. When questioned about a potential return to the MCU on the red carpet of the Boy Kills World premiere, Raimi said to The Wrap, “I don’t have any plans. But I would love it!”
The sixth Avengers movie is set in the sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie, which takes inspiration from the same-titled Marvel Comics event, will see many heroes from the earlier stages reappear and fight against a cosmic danger to rival Thanos.
What is the Secret Wars Comic Book About?
The original SECRET WARS was the first mega-crossover comic where Marvel’s most prominent heroes and villains came together to survive an all-out super-powered slugfest among the stars. In 1984, the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and the Hulk were transported onto a strange spaceship, where they encountered their greatest enemies like Galactus, Ultron, Doctor Doom, and the Enchantress. Marvel’s heroes had never gathered in such a manner before, therefore this was a historic occasion.
The Battleworld, created by the powerful Beyonder, served as a theater of war between the two groups. The event introduced villains like Titania and Volcana, temporarily reverted Thing to his Benjamin Grimm human form, and changed Spider-Man’s life with his alien costume. Doctor Doom challenged the Beyonder, but Captain America saved the heroes.
The next issues of series tie-ins with Secret Wars reveal developments following the return of Marvel combatants, including the Thing being replaced by the She-Hulk, Spider-Man adopting an alien symbiote, Colossus ending his relationship with Kitty Pryde, and the Hulk’s re-emerging savage side.
What Do We Know About Avengers: Secret Wars?
The fact that Jonathan Majors, who was playing Kang in The Multiverse Saga, was let go by Marvel Studios is probably one of the main reasons for the absence of updates surrounding the upcoming Avengers films. After this, Kevin Feige and his creative team decide what to do next. Perhaps recasting Kang with a different actor (which they’ve done many times before) or removing him from the narrative entirely. The two Avengers movies originally scheduled for release in 2023 had to be postponed by Marvel Studios due to the Hollywood strikes.
The comic book storyline brought the Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Spider-Man together. It’s rumored the new Avengers movie will be the first time the three groups will meet in the MCU.
With a big movie like Avengers: Secret Wars, it’s obvious that after The Multiverse Saga concludes, the MCU will be drastically altered. However, progress has been slow on Phase 6 due to the lack of directors. Although Michael Waldron, a writer by Loki, is writing the scripts for Avengers 5 (also known as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty) and Avengers: Secret Wars, neither have a director attached to them yet.
Though focused more on the MCU multiverse, Avengers 5 might help with the Kang scenario. It wouldn’t be shocking if Avengers 5 acts as Avengers: Secret Wars – Part One and then leads into Avengers 6. If so, it would explain the lack of updates, since Waldron might be rewriting his screenplays to more clearly tell the same story in two films rather than two separate ones. It will take time for Marvel Studios to reveal further details about Avengers: Secret Wars.
On May 7, 2027, Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Secret Wars will open in theaters.
