Here are the biggest stories for Tuesday, June 20, 2023. Wonder Woman’s daughter Trinity is revealed, and Gunn is blown away by screen tests for Superman: Legacy. Plus, Hopkins finds his role as Odin ‘Pointless’, Kevin Smith will screen the “Schumacher Cut” for free, and Star Trek: The Next Generation cast confesses early season regrets.

    1. Who Knows The Truth About Wonder Woman’s Daughter Trinity? (Spoilers) | BleedingCool

Wonder Woman #800 sets up the new series Wonder Woman #1, featuring Trinity, the 19-year-old daughter of Wonder Woman. She lives with Superman and Batman’s sons Jonathan Kent and Damian Wayne 20 years in the future.  I’ll give my review of the comic later in the week.

    2. James Gunn ‘Blown Away’ by Screen Tests for ‘Superman: Legacy’ | HeroicHollywood

DC Studios’ Chief James Gunn was blown away by the actors auditioning for the upcoming Superman: Legacy film. The cast includes David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Tom Brittney, and Andrew Richardson, who are vying for the iconic role of Kal-El. The casting process for Superman’s love interest Lois Lane is also being screen tested. The movie will introduce new faces to James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe, as well as numerous DC Comics heroes from The Authority. Gunn also debunked speculations about the actors mentioned for leading roles, stating that it is a private matter and not the audience’s business.

    3. Why Anthony Hopkins Found His Role As The MCU’s Odin ‘Pointless’ | Slashfilm

One of my personal guilty pleasures is the first Thor movie. To me, it’s one of the top five in the MCU. But I know I’m in the minority.

It appears I also have to disagree with one of its stars. Anthony Hopkins, an actor known for his elegance, dignity, and nuance in roles, has often expressed apathy or contempt for his roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He played Odin the All-Father the old, wise leader in the 2011 film “Thor,” which set the stage for the first “Avengers” film in 2012. Despite the many returns, Hopkins had mixed feelings about the role, calling it “pointless acting.” The film was directed by Kenneth Branagh, who had a history of beloved performances and accolades in fantastical franchise mode. Despite this, Hopkins found the experience of working on the movie enjoyable and less of an obsession, especially with the distancing effect of visual effects-heavy film sets.

Despite the ongoing debate about the artistic credibility of Marvel movies, many actors have had more engaging experiences than Hopkins, such as Angela Bassett’s work in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Robert Downey Jr.’s comeback as Tony Stark in “Iron Man,” and Dave Bautista’s portrayal of Drax the Destroyer in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies.

Anyone that doesn’t feel the power of Hopkin’s performance during the banishment scene has no heart. Even the crew was wiping away tears during this scene.

    5. Kevin Smith Says He Has Batman Forever ‘Schumacher Cut’ and Is Going to Review It – July 1st & August 25t. | Escapist Magazine

Smith revealed on his Fat Man Beyond podcast that he plans to screen the Batman Forever Schumacher cut, which is reportedly 170 minutes long. The cut features a darker tone and a 15-minute opening, extended action, and a giant dream bat. The extra time is said to expand the story of Bruce Wayne turning into Batman and the psychological reasons behind it. Currently, Warner Bros. has no plans to release the movie.

Frankly, I can’t imagine a longer version of the worst superhero movie ever made.

    6. Ezra Miller Didn’t Know They’d Actually Have To Run When First Cast As The Flash | SlashFilm

Ezra Miller was surprised to learn that running was required during the filming of “The Flash.” The character runs, which is his specialty, but the CGI technology and the fast running made it difficult for fans to see him. Miller was “outraged” upon learning that running was required, as he had initially thought it would be easy. However, the production team required him to run on a 25-foot treadmill, which was bouncy and bouncy and then strapped him into a harness for various tasks.

    10. Supergirl Actor Sasha Calle Teases Her DC Future After The Flash | The Direct

The Flash has received positive reviews for Sasha Calle’s performance in the film, which showcases her new take on Supergirl. Calle expressed her desire to return to the DC Universe and has confirmed talks with DC Studios about a potential return. She mentioned her excitement about appearing in stories like Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and even named the comic the story is based on as an inspiration for her character. Calle hopes to continue playing Supergirl and believes the film serves as a runway to a bigger story.

So there’s a longer cut of The Spirit out there? 😉

I don’t think the new DC bosses are going to keep anyone around. Typically the new regime likes to clean house.
