It’s new comic book day my friends! Read on for the top 10 comics featuring ethnic characters or talent this week.

This week brings Storm and Spider-Man and a Batman or two. Find out in this week’s new comic book pull list!

    1. Immortal X-Men #11

    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Writer: Kieron Gillen
    Artist: Lucas Werneck
    Cover Artist: Mark Brooks
Official Summary: PART 11: A HARD REIGN – STORM OF TWO WORLDS! Sins of Sinister is over…but the sins fallout remains. Storm can’t believe what everyone has done. But when the fate of two worlds rests in her hands, what can she do about it?

Mini-Review: Immortal X-Men #11 is one of the best issues yet, combining Kieron Gillen’s character work with Lucas Werneck’s excellent artwork and intrigue. It uses Storm, once hailed a literal god, to cast judgment on those whose games allowed Sinister’s nightmare timeline to become a reality for a millennium. Gillen’s depiction of Storm at her righteous best and self-righteous worst is beautiful character work, combined with Werneck’s excellent artwork and intrigue.

    On Sale: May 2nd, 2023
    Price: $3.99

Buy Immortal X-Men 11& on Amazon

    2. The Flash #798

Mini-Review: Jeremy Adams run ends with Flash #798 and it captures the Silver Age fun while making the characters feel real and human. The art team makes every page memorable. Together they created a new adventure for Wally and his friends, while also putting his new baby in danger. The stakes are high, and the different heroes jump in for an exciting final adventure under Adams’ guidance.

    3. Star Wars #34

    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Writer: Charles Soule
    Artist: Madibek Musabekov

Mini-Review: Luke Skywalker embarks on an adventure to find a kyber crystal for his new lightsaber, but his quest puts him on a path with dangerous figures and mysterious faces. This first chapter in a new storyline focuses solely on Luke Skywalker, but it could shed some insight into the Jedi Master we meet in Return of the Jedi.

    Price: $3.99

Buy Star Wars 34& on Amazon

    4. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi – Lando #1

    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Writer: Stephanie Phillips
    Artist: Alvaro López
    Cover Artist: Ryan Brown
Official Summary: LANDO AND CHEWIE ANTE UP TO SAVE THE GALAXY! When Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca find themselves on a perilous mission to steal from Jabba himself, a dangerous figure from Lando’s past threatens their plans and their lives. Chewie finds that putting his trust in Calrissian is a gamble that just might pay off, as Lando calls on his skills as a smuggler to make it out alive. Part of a series of one-shots celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Return of the Jedi, this story by Stephanie Phillips (COSMIC GHOST RIDER, ROGUE & GAMBIT) and Álvaro López (CAPTAIN MARVEL) bring you a new, high-stakes adventure with some of Star Wars’ most beloved characters.

Mini-Review: Star Wars: Return of the Jedi Lando #1 is a fun caper story that showcases Lando Calrissian’s adventures in Jabba’s Palace. Fans are familiar with Lando’s antics as a supporting character, but this book puts him front and center in some of the liveliest scenarios imaginable. The stakes are relatively low for this outing, but it manages to find the right balance between delivering on expectations and taking the story in new directions. We’re disappointed that this was only a one-shot, but we’re hopeful that this is just the beginning of how he will be integrated into the core Star Wars title.

    On Sale: May 3rd, 2023
    Price: $4.99

Buy Star Wars: Return of the Jedi – Lando 1& on Amazon

His powers are super-charged, enabling him to be the best Spider-Man he can be…but can his all-too-human body take it? A classic Spider-Villain is back and doesn’t care if Spidey has his hands full. LEGACY #164

Mini-Review: Spider-Man #8 is a novel by Peter Parker that combines traditional Marvel values with a modern twist. It follows the mystery of Spider-Boy, his new enhanced power, and a return of a classic villain. The central premise, characters, and artwork of the series make it a must-read for many.

    On Sale: May 3rd, 2023

    6. Batman #135

Can the Dark Knight overcome the terrifying infection that Red Mask has unleashed? Only one thing is certain: he won’t be able to do it alone. The conclusion to the bestselling “The Bat-Man of Gotham” is so big it could only be contained in an oversize #900 anniversary issue featuring the return of fan-favorite artist Jorge Jiménez and a wild collection of guest stars! Full of wild revelations and a new path for Batman, this is one issue you won’t want to miss! LEGACY #900

Mini-Review: Batman #135 is an epic conclusion to the current Batman arc, featuring justice, combat, and storytelling with a spoonful of heart. It is a celebration of the Dark Knight’s 900th solo issue, with a superstar art team and scripting that sings. It sets up an emotional status quo for the Dark Knight and cements Jimnez as one of the greats when it comes to illustrating the hero.

    On Sale: May 2nd, 2023
    Price: $6.99

    Buy Batman 135& on Amazon

    7. Star Wars: Darth Vader #33

    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Writer: Greg Pak
    Artist: Adam Gorham
Cover Artist: Sunny Gho & Leinil Francis Yu
Official Summary: UNBOUND FORCE, PART IWhen the Dark Lord of the Sith loses control of the Force, nothing is safe—not even his own Executor-class Star Dreadnought. But in the face of total destruction, Commander Sabé finds an opportunity. Does Vader’s untrammeled onslaught expose a vulnerability? Or is it just another doorway to the terrifying tyranny of the Sith?

Mini-Review: Star Wars: Darth Vader #33 picks up where the last issue left off, with Darth Vader feeling a disturbance in the Force that causes his power to go berserk. The comic’s story and themes are a little repetitive, but this book shows more than it tells and is satisfying from start to finish.

    On Sale: May 3rd, 2023
    Price: $3.99

Buy Star Wars: Darth Vader 33& on Amazon

When Dylan Brock asks Moon Knight for help, the two must stalk the nighttime streets together in search of justice! LEGACY #223

Mini-Review: Moon Knight #23 is a perfect crossover story, featuring Jed MacKay’s voice for Venom, Alessandro Cappuccio’s strong fight sequence, Rachelle Rosenberg’s colors, and Cory Petit’s lettering. It serves as a gateway into the run as it heads to its landmark issue and spinoff series. Fans of Venom will want to check it out.

    On Sale: May 3rd, 2023
    Price: $3.99

Buy Moon Knight 23& on Amazon

    9. The Avengers: War Across Time #5

    Artist: Alan Davis
    Cover Artist: Alan Davis
Official Summary: CHAPTER FIVE – Showdown in the future! Will the original Avengers get a glimpse of what awaits them, or will the swirling madness of time swallow them up?

Mini-Review: Avengers: War Across Time #5 is a must-read of modern comics due to its unique style of pulpy tales of the 1960s. Writer Paul Levitz and artist Alan Davis bring in nearly every decade of Marvel’s Avengers comics into splash pages.

    On Sale: May 3rd, 2023
    Price: $3.99

Buy The Avengers: War Across Time 5& on Amazon

    10. Edge of Spider-Verse #1

    Publisher: Marvel Comics
    Writer: Christos Gage
    Artist: Ig Guara
    Cover Artist: Todd Nauck
Official Summary: ENTER: KRAVERTOOTH THE HUNTER / CURSE OF THE SPIDER-KILLER INTO THE OTHER EDGE OF THE SPIDER-VERSE! SPIDER-REX returns and faces the VENOMSAURUS! PLUS—WHO IS THE SPIDER-KILLER?! Zander Cannon introduces the world to the scariest Spider-Character EVER CREATED!!! Bringing your favorite breakout characters back, as well as introducing brand new Spiders who will blow your mind!

Mini-Review: Edge of Spider-Verse #1 is a hit with two stories that are both well-crafted in different ways. The first story, Spider-Rex, is a breath of fresh air with humor and action, while the second story, Spider-Killer, is dark, twisted, and well-written.

    On Sale: May 3rd, 2023
