Transformers is saving the world, this time in the 90s. 2018’s Bumblebee was set in the ’80s. The sequel brings robotic action into the next decade.
It features everyone’s favorite Autobots: Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and more. This time they encounter a “whole new faction of Transformer — the Maximals — to join them as allies in the existing battle for earth”. Maximals are robots that don’t transform into vehicles like cars and planes. They transform into animals like gorillas and birds.
Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II) directs the latest installment in the hit series. It also stars Hamilton star Anthony Ramos and Swarm star Dominique Fishback.
Its so great to hear Cullen’s voice again. Frankly if Cullen stops doing the voice they should end the movies. He’s the heart of the Transformers franchise. Plus adding the classic planet-eating Transformers villain Unicron takes the movie to a whole new level.
The Rise of the Beasts voice cast includes Michelle Yeoh, Pete Davidson, Peter Dinklage, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and Ron Perlman as the new character Optimus Primal.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura teased the stars’ vocal performances in a recent interview with Collider, saying Pete Davidson “crushed the character” Mirage. He also said Perlman and Yeoh are the two that carry the body of the dialogue, and therefore they’re the ones you’re going to know the most about”.
Bonaventura also shared how Michael Bay, who returned as producer, helped make the film a reality. Bay directed five Transformers films, starting with the 2007 film starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox.
“Listen, he brought us to the promised land. So we’re always appreciative of that. Michael comes in and helps us with certain aspects of this, [and it] is really helpful to have his eye because he has an intrinsic understanding of this world,” he said.
I’m so stoked for this movie. It’s made for the fans who grew up with the franchise since the beginning.
Directed by Steven Caple Jr. and starring Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, the film arrives in theatres June 9, 2023.
