A new trailer for the Pacific Rim sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising, dropped and it has some surprises.
The movie is about a team of pilots who use giant robots (known as “Jaegers”) fight an attack of giant monsters (known as “Kaiju”) from another dimension. The film picks up where the last one left off and stars Star Wars’ John Boyega as the son of the famous Jaeger pilot Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba).
I gotta say it’s hard to get excited about this film. Not only does it not have the original director Guillermo del Toro, but it looks more like Transformers than the thoughtful drama the last film was.
We’ll see what happens, but this isn’t looking like a must-watch film like the last one was. On the other hand, if you’re looking for another giant robot fight movie this is high on the list.

Official Synopsis: “The globe-spanning conflict between otherworldly monsters of mass destruction and the human-piloted super-machines built to vanquish them was only a prelude to the all-out assault on humanity in Pacific Rim Uprising.
“John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous ‘Kaiju.’ Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi)—who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war.
