“Maze Runner: Death Cure”: 7 Things You Need to Know From Trailer #1

    Maze Runner: Death Cure (2018)

The new trailer for the long-delayed movie in the Maze Runner trilogy was released today. It looks darker, grittier and more intense than either of the two films.

Here are a few things you need to know. First, watch the Maze Runner: Death Cure (2018) trailer below:

You Don’t Need to Read the Book

    Maze Runner: Death Cure (2018)

The second Maze Runner movie Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) was a significant deviation from the book and it looks like Death Cure is different too. While the cast has promised there may be some spoilers in the book, it’s probably not enough to seek it out. If you’ve read it there may be some elements that carry over.

The Death Cure is a 2011 young adult dystopian science fiction novel written by James Dashner. The Death Cure is the third book and the fifth chronologically in the series.

    They’re Breaking into WKCD

    Maze Runner: Death Cure (2018)

“Three years we spent behind walls trying to break out,” Newt, played by Thomas Brodie-Sangster says. “And now you want to break back in. Alright. I get shotgun.”

A group of scientists, known as WCKD, are trying to find a cure. They kidnap kids who are immune to the disease, wipe their memories and put them into a maze covered in deadly traps to try and find the cause of their immunity.

The group were trapped in the Glades outside of the maze for years and took turns trying to map it. They broke out in Scorch Trials, but they need to break into massive labyrinth known as “The Last City”. If they make it out alive they’ll get the answer to what the maze is and what it’s for.

    Train Heist

    Maze Runner: Death Cure (2018)

The group literally steals a moving train car. In 2016 Dylan O’Brien was seriously injured in an on-set stunt. The injury was so bad they shut down production till he recovered.

While the studio has never publically released the cause of the injury Deadline reported that “O’Brien apparently fell off the back of a set that was supposed to look like the back of a train and fractured either his cheekbone or orbital socket (still not clear on the details) when he fell on his face.” At first, it seemed minor but they soon realized it was very serious.

Thankfully he recovered and returned to the film after the restarted shooting.

Knowing how dangerous these shots were really heightens the tension.

Why are they stealing the train car? It’s filled with Immunes in chains.

    Maze Runner: Death Cure (2018)

WCKD is still up to no good.

    There Is No Cure

    Maze Runner: Death Cure (2018)

“It stops when we find a cure.” Thomas screams, “There is no cure!”

The world of Maze Runner has been devastated by a horrific pandemic known as “Flare” that turns people into zombie-like creatures that eventually become cannibals.

    Gally is Back

In the first Maze Runner movie, Gally (Will Poulter) is the resident bully in the Glades. He’s seemingly killed by Minho with a spear. But after being impaled he moves slightly.

In the books, Gally comes back but deeply scarred.

Thomas could tell immediately that the black-haired kid who answered was Gally from the Glade. No doubt about it. But his face was badly scarred, covered in raised lines like thin white slugs. His right eye looked permanently swollen, and his nose, which had been big and slightly deformed before the Chuck incident, was markedly crooked.

Although he’s not shown in the trailer he’s listed as one of the actors in the film. Gally is back, but is he scarred? Has he had a change of heart?

    Thomas Has a Hard Choice

    Maze Runner: Death Cure (2018)

“Thomas,” Ava Paige, played by Patricia Clarkson says. “You can save your friends or you can save us all”

The whole goal of WCKD is the find the cure for Flare. It looks like there’s a chance to save humanity, but Thomas has to sacrifice his friends.

    Page 250

There’s an infamous page in the Death Cure book. I’m not going to spoil it but it involved a major character. That character is in the trailer and will be in the movie. There’s no way to know if the movie will follow the plot of the book, but Maze Runner fans are terrified the page will be recreated on screen. How can we move on?

About Maze Runner: Death Cure (2018)

Official Synopsis: “In the epic finale to the Maze Runner saga, Thomas leads his group of escaped Gladers on their final and most dangerous mission yet. To save their friends, they must break into the legendary Last City, a WCKD-controlled labyrinth that may turn out to be the deadliest maze of all. Anyone who makes it out alive will get answers to the questions the Gladers have been asking since they first arrived in the maze.”

The Maze Runner: Death Cure (2018) cast includes Dylan O’Brien as Thomas, Kaya Scodelario as Teresa Agnes, Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Newt, Dexter Darden as Frypan, Nathalie Emmanuel as Harriet, Giancarlo Esposito as Jorge, Aidan Gillen as Janson, Walton Goggins as Lawrence, Ki Hong Lee as Minho, Jacob Lofland as Aris Jones, Barry Pepper as Vince, Will Poulter as Gally, Rosa Salazar as Brenda

    Directed by Wes Ball

Scheduled for Release: January 26, 2018 (US)

I never watched either of the first two. It seems pretty ridiculous to put people who are immune to a disease in a death maze. I'm 99% sure that's not how science works.
