Iron Man (2008) – Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Sasha Alexander |
See the beginning of the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” in the original Iron Man screen test with Robert Downey Jr. Back in 2007, Robert Downey Jr. was director Jon Favreau’s pick for the title role of Tony Stark saying, “Downey wasn’t the most obvious choice, but he understood what makes the
character tick. He found a lot of his own life experience in ‘Tony
Stark’.” Downey Jr. is perfect as Tony Stark but, back when they
were making the film, he still needed to do a screen test. He was one
of the actors that did a screen test with Sasha Alexander (N.C.I.S.) and knocked it out of the park. This is what started the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
What do you think of Robert Downey Jr.’s screen test? Can you see what made him great?

He is the perfect choice… I couldn't think of anyone else who could be T.Stark!
And now he has the role down pat!
He makes a fantastic Tony Stark. I don't think I could envision anyone else in the part.
Wait a minute, I thought that video was supposed to feature RDJ, not Gary Sinese? Clearly the boys at Marvel changed their tack from a fairly serious approach to a more flippant one at some point after this audition.
