Doctor Who (2010) – Eleventh Doctor (Matt Smith) holding card of First Doctor (William Hartnell)

How many times has the Doctor used the alias John Smith? Let’s find out. Last week’s episode of Doctor Who (“The Caretaker”) had him posing as a school caretaker named John Smith. While we don’t know the Doctor’s real name, he’s used this fake name many times. Here’s a list of all of the ones he’s used it on the show, although there are a bunch more times he used the nickname in the books and comics.

    The Wheel in Space (1968)

Frazer Hines (Jamie McCrimmon) is looking for a fake name to give the Second Doctor (Patrick Troughton). When he sees a piece of equipment manufactured by John Smith & Associates, he first gives the Doctor the name.
