Dwayne McDuffie was a pioneer in comic books as a writer with three Eisner Award nominations, a Writers Guild of America award, the creator of several popular characters, co-founder of the legendary minority-owned-and-operated comic-book company Milestone Media and almost ten films in his credits. He also happened to be be black. He died in 2011 but, in his twenty-year history in comics, he experienced many things including the inherent racism in the comic book industry.
