Watch the first Guardians of the Galaxy trailer and see high resolution screencaps!

Yesterday, after weeks of waiting, we finally got the first official trailer for the next Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy. Here’s the official synopsis:

“From Marvel, the studio that brought you the global blockbuster franchises of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Avengers, comes a new team–the Guardians of the Galaxy. An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon; Groot, a tree-like humanoid; the deadly and enigmatic Gamora; and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand–with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

“Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which first appeared in comic books in MARVEL SUPER-HEROES #18 (Jan. 1969), stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, featuring Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Nova Prime Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector.

“James Gunn is the director of the film with Kevin Feige producing, and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Jeremy Latcham, Alan Fine and Stan Lee serve as executive producers. The story is by Nicole Perlman and James Gunn, with screenplay by James Gunn. Marvel’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ releases in U.S. theaters on August 1, 2014.”

    The Guardians of the Galaxy
characters are showcased perfectly as the “Guardians” crew – Peter Quill
/ Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper),
Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Drax the
Destroyer (Dave Bautista) fight against Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace),
Nebula (Karen Gillan), Taneleer Tivan / The Collector (Benicio Del Toro)
and Korath the Pursuer (Djimon Hounsou).

I gotta say it’s very different from any other Marvel trailer I’ve seen. Musical choices like Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling” show James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy is going to be a wild ride.

Finally, here are some gifs of everyone’s favorite raccoon in action:

What do you think of the trailer? Are you looking forward to the Guardians of the Galaxy?

If it weren't for the raccoon I'd have little interest in the movie. I'd never even heard of the Guardians of the Galaxy until I heard there was a movie coming out. I don't think I'm alone on that score.

The word "obscure" is not inappropriate Pat and the raccoon is the big draw.

I'm so confused by this trailer, and I think that is it's intent

I was aware of The Guardians, and knew who Rocket Racoon is. But I never read the comics. I think this looks awesome. I can't wait to see it.

I gotta have more cowbell. Plus this makes the movie look pretty good, although once again and perhaps most blatantly of all this time, Marvel aims for the funny. I still say this movie will either solidify Marvel's reign or topple it.

It looks like it won't take itself too seriously. Because it really can't. Otherwise, cool effects.

    7. DAVID WALSTON on February 19, 2014 8:44 pm

Great pictures! It is looking good to me. It is funny seeing Karen Gillan like that.

    8. M Pax on February 19, 2014 9:50 pm

Really? A raccoon guards the universe? lol I like that.
