Son of Batman (2014), Damian WayneRobin (Stuart Allen) |
There have been a bunch of Batman sidekicks called Robin, but none like Damian Wayne. Robin I (Dick Grayson), Robin II (Jason Todd), Robin III (Tim Drake) and Robin IV (Stephanie Brown) are all great sidekicks, but Damien is something different.
Yesterday TV Guide premiered the trailer for Son of Batman. It’s based on the 2006 “Batman & Son” story arc by Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert.
Here are the biggest differences between Damian Robin and other Robin’s.
- This Robin is Bruce Wayne’s illegitimate son by Talia Al Ghul.
- This Robin was trained as an assassin by the League of Shadows
- This Robin is not afraid to kill. This puts him at odds with Batman who never kills if he can avoid it.
- This Robin was born in a lab and raised by killers. He doesn’t handle authority well.
- This Robin wants to drive the car. Chicks dig the car.
Son of Batman is the first of two full-length DC animated Batman movies being released on DVD this year. The other one is Batman: Assault on Arkham.
Son of Batman features the voice talents of Jason O’Mara (Justice League: War), Stuart Allan (Rise of the Guardians) as Damian, Thomas Gibson (Criminal Minds) as Batman, Morena Baccarin (Firefly) as Talia, and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad) as Ra’s Al Ghul. There’s no release date yet, but it’ll go on sale sometime in the spring.
What do you think of the trailer? Are you looking forward to Son of Batman? Do you think Damien will be a good robin? Who’s your favorite Robin?

Stories are so much better when there are personal stakes involved. That trailer looks really good.
I'm sure Tony Laplume will be looking forward to it since it's based on Grant Morrison comics. I wonder if this means at some point they'll make a movie of when this Robin "dies"?
It's shocking to hear Damian speak! Maybe it's just me, but I never really read him with such a childish voice.
Well he was only 10.
I heard James Earl Jones was up for the role, but he couldn't make it. 😉 His voice casting is surprising.
That could be a twist ending Pat.
I'm not into animations, but I really liked watching this.
