Poll: How Would You Bring STAR TREK Back to TV?

    Star Trek: The Original Series
(1964) TV ad, Captain Christopher Pike (Jeffrey Hunter) Spock (Leonard
    Nimoy
    )

How would you make a new Star Trek TV series?

It’s time for the results of last times poll
    and the new question.

This week news broke that Star Trek
    producer Bob Orci is shopping
    around a new Star Trek
    series.

    Sky News reporter Joe
    Michalczuk tweeted the following:

Bob Orci just told me they’ve had a meeting with CBS to revive @StarTrek  on TV…This made me v excited

    — Joe Michalczuk (@joemichalczuk) October 8, 2013

There hasn’t been a new episode of Star
    Trek
on televisions since 2005 with the last episode of the Star Trek: Enterprise TV show.
    That ended
an unbroken run of 18 years of new Star Trek shows beginning
    with Star
    Trek: The Next Generation
    in 1987.

Of course, the movies are more popular than ever thanks to the J.J.
    Abrams
films and the time seems right to create a new Star Trek TV Series.

This may or may not be big news. After all, when asked about a new
    Star Trek series
    J.J.
Abrams said, “What I’ve been told from the powers that be [at CBS] is
that they are not interested.” Part of this is because of an extremely
complicated rights issue between CBS and Paramount
    . But, assuming
they work all that out, it’s an exciting idea.

So here’s the question: How should they create a new Star Trek Series? Old, new or
reboot? Bring the Star Trek TV cast back or start fresh?

The results of last week’s poll – Could
This Fan-Made Wonder Woman Short Lead to a Movie?
    – is No, the
short wouldn’t lead to a Wonder Woman movie. Quite a few said they
didn’t like the short. I agree that, while it’s stylistic, it doesn’t
    have much of a story.

Vote above and leave your comments below and come back in two weeks for
    the results and the next
    poll.

Come back next week for the bi-weekly caption contest
and comes back in two weeks for the next poll.

    How would you make
a new Star Trek television series? Why do you feel it’s the best way to
do it? Should they do it at all?

I reckon since Orci is involved with the new movies they'd be using that universe. Obviously it'd have to be a different ship since it'd be too expensive to use the movie cast and recasting them (again) wouldn't work. The good thing is then unlike the movies they could actually do some trekking!

    2. Roderick T Faulkner on October 17, 2013 2:40 pm

Personally, I think the time is right for a new Star Trek series. However, I think it would be a good idea to focus on a completely new ship and characters, but set it in J.J. Abrams rebooted universe.

New ship, new crew, new attitude.
no need to have the movies tie in to it.

I'm a TNG girl all the way. Though I'll admit, without the original cast, if they just rebooted it, I probably wouldn't like it. It'll be exciting–if it happens–to see where they go with it. 😀

New ship and characters! Any time period would work. Yes, I'll watch anything…

Imagine a Star Trek reality TV style cookery contest in which, instead of being given a mini-kitchen and selection of ingredients, each contestant stands in front of a replicator.
