Welcome to “Geek Bits” where we share the geekiest bits of the Internet
    for you.

    NEWS

Sorry if we haven’t liked or friended you on Facebook from “The Geek Twins.” I’m still having trouble figuring out how to do it since we have an “organizational” page and it has limitations.

Update: Turns out it’s a “fan” page and doesn’t have the ability to like or friend other pages. We may have to set up another one.

Find out more in this week’s Top Ten “Geek Bits.”

    10. Joss Whedon “Pissed Off” About Lack of Female Superheroes in Film (Via /Film) Whedon got into it in a conversation with The Daily Beast.

Toymakers will tell you they won’t sell enough, and movie
people will point to the two terrible superheroine movies that were
made and say, You see? It can’t be done. It’s stupid, and I’m hoping The
Hunger Games will lead to a paradigm shift.

    It’s frustrating to me that
I don’t see anybody developing one of these movies. It actually pisses
me off. My daughter watched The Avengers and was like, “My favorite
characters were the Black Widow and Maria Hill,” and I thought, Yeah, of
    course they were.

I read a beautiful thing Junot Diaz wrote: “If you
want to make a human being into a monster, deny them, at the cultural
    level, any reflection of themselves.”

    9. Top Two Films has a post on the Iconic Image of Jurassic Park’s cup of water.

Anyone who has seen Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park will recognise this image of a plastic cup of water…and begin to shiver with fear.

    8. Alex J. Cavanaugh has a non-spoiler image from Captain America: The Winter
    Soldier
while Geek Tyrant has a VERY spoilery image from the film.

    1. Pat Dilloway on June 7, 2013 3:24 pm

Joss Whedon and I are pretty simpatico on the subject of female heroes. Of course he has a lot more power to do something about it. Maybe I should go send him a copy of the Scarlet Knight books.

Too bad it's another week until Man of Steel comes out. I wonder if that's one they're showing overseas first?

    2. Alex J. Cavanaugh on June 7, 2013 3:28 pm

      Thanks for the mention!
So cool Jeremy got to visit the set while they were filming. He is chomping at the bit to see the movie now.
And sounds like Whedon needs to do a female superhero film.

    3. Tony Laplume on June 7, 2013 5:02 pm

Considering all he had was Black Widow in the Avengers, Whedon doesn't have a leg to stand on in this case.

    4. jeremy [retro] on June 7, 2013 5:47 pm

i am having movie withdrawals… Man of Steel is coming and I am getting weird and happy much like when The Avengers was getting released… Countdown, more coming next week…

    5. jeremy [retro] on June 7, 2013 5:47 pm

      yes… yes i am!

    6. Maurice Mitchell on June 8, 2013 3:43 am

It's very exciting Jeremy. When I first heard about it I was really skeptical, but it could just be the biggest movie of the year!

    7. Maurice Mitchell on June 8, 2013 3:44 am

I heard he wanted other characters like The Wasp, but he couldn't get them in.

    8. Maurice Mitchell on June 8, 2013 3:46 am

Toy guys are tend setters Pat. I just checked and you're right! The first showing is in the Philippines on the 12th.

    9. MedeiaSharif on June 9, 2013 4:35 pm

Cool links. I especially liked the pulp covers.

I love all the different costumes.
