Welcome to “Geek Bits” where we share the geekiest bits of the Internet for you.  Who is Captain Harlock? What does Lois Lane use at the Daily Planet? Where is it cheap to travel to Mars? When will X-Men: Days of Future Past be set? How do you spell “into”? Read on to find out.

    X-MEN

Casting Call shows that the sequel to X-Men: First Class is set 10 years after the first film in 1973. X-Men: Days of Future Past opens on July 17, 2014

    STAR WARS

It turns out J.J. Abrams really wasn’t interested in directing Star Wars until Kathleen Kennedy talked him into it.”Famously plain-spoken, she summarizes her pitch like this: ‘Please do Star Wars.’ And she had cards to play. Not only was Oscar winner Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Toy Story 3) writing the script, but Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back and 1983’s Return of the Jedi, was on board to consult. Abrams ‘was flipping out when he found out that Michael and Larry were on the movie already,’ says Kennedy. (Via Hollywood Reporter)

    DOCTOR WHO

An Adventure in Space and Time, this 90-minute telemovie will feature a dramatic retelling of Doctor Who‘s beginnings in 1963.

    Space Pirate Captain Harlock

Based on the manga series Space Pirate Captain Harlock Wikipedia “In the future, Mankind has achieved a vast starfaring civilization, but
is slowly and steadily succumbing to ennui or despair, often due to
defeat and subjugation by a foreign invader. Rising against the general
apathy, Harlock denies defeat and leads an outlaw crew aboard his
starship Arcadia to undertake daring raids against Earth’s
oppressors. Their primary oppressors are the Mazone, a race of organic
plant-based alien women who explored Earth in the mythic past and are
    now back to reclaim it.”

Hey, thanks for plugging the A to Z Challenge! Fourth year running and going to be the best ever.
So we can blame Kathleen Kennedy for Abrams directing Star Wars, huh?

    2. Pat Dilloway on February 1, 2013 3:07 pm

I wonder how much Kasdan gets for consulting? I would love to get one of those sweet gigs, where I can just sit around a set, fill my face with free food, and complain about stuff.
