Zack Snyder once called Superman the “King-Daddy” of all superheroes. Yesterday, the long-awaited trailer for the Superman reboot Man of Steel (2013) was released and it’s the King-Daddy of all superhero trailers.

Above Image: Man of Steel (2013) Superman (Henry Cavill) and Lois Lane (Amy Adams)

We get UFOs, drowning kids, exploding cities and supersonic flying. We also get some very human moments with mothers and sons.

“It’s a more serious version of Superman.” director Snyder said. ” It’s not like a heart attack. We took the mythology seriously. We take him as a character seriously. I believe the movie would appeal to anyone. I think that you’re going to see a Superman you’ve never seen before. We approached it as though no other films had been made. He’s the king-daddy. Honestly that’s why I wanted to do it. I’m interested in Superman because he’s the father of all superheroes.”

    First, the trailer.

Here’s a transcript of the voiceover.

Young Clark: The world’s too big Mom.

Martha Kent: Then make it small. Focus on my voice. Pretend it’s an island out in the ocean. Can you see it?

    Young Clark: I see it.

Mother: My son was in the bus. He saw what Clark did.

Jonathon Kent: You have to keep this side of yourself a secret.

Young Clark: What was I supposed to do? Just let ’em die?

    Jonathon Kent: Maybe…

Clark Kent: I have so many questions. Where do I come from?

Jonathan Kent: You just have to decide what kind of man you’re gonna grow up to be. Whoever that man is…he’s going to change to world.

Superman: My father believed that if the world found out who I really was. It would reject me. He was convinced that the world wasn’t ready. What do you think?

    Offical Synopsis:

“In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.”

Release date: June 14, 2013 (USA)

    Director: Zack Snyder

    Music: Hans Zimmer

Costume design: Michael Wilkinson, James Acheson

Screenplay: David S. Goyer, Kurt Johnstad

It was pretty awesome. I like they seem to be approaching him as a flesh-and-blood character and not just some dude who can pick up really heavy stuff and deflect bullets. But when you have Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder on board that's kind of what I'd expect.

    2. Jessica Stank on December 12, 2012 4:01 pm

I am so excited about this movie! I really like how the new adaptations make the superheroes seem like actual people instead of cartoonish or fairy tale. I expect Snyder did the character justice. I have really enjoyed his other stuff.

i too am excited… finally a actual trailer with stuff in it… when he takes flight, i got very happy… my only concern is that it will be a 300 look-a-like… meaning please clark keep your shirt on… on my post today, i share a little behind the scenes stuff i shot while on the set of this film…

      Jeremy's comment made me laugh!
Been DC fan for years, so really hoping they finally hit one out of the park.

    5. Maurice Mitchell on December 13, 2012 7:15 am

Pat, Snyder and Nolan are a powerful combination. He is a lot more human than any other movie. A crying child? Amazing

    6. Film-Book.com on December 13, 2012 7:18 am

      Great screencaps.

"it's the King-Daddy of all superhero trailers."

That is a little dubious. Its good. Its not great. Watchmen's trailer was more exciting.

    7. Film-Book.com on December 13, 2012 7:18 am

"This year's Amazing Spider-Man came close."

No it didn't. That movie was a joke.

    8. Maurice Mitchell on December 13, 2012 7:21 am

Good call Film-book. Watchmen had an awesome trailer, but it was mainly because of the Smashing Pumpkins song. Too bad they couldn't get the rights to put it in the movie.

    9. Maurice Mitchell on December 13, 2012 7:21 am

This is Superman's chance to catch up to Dark Knight Alex.

    10. Maurice Mitchell on December 13, 2012 7:21 am

That flight is what makes Superman great. Hopefully he won't be listening to China in space again.

    11. Liesel Hill on December 13, 2012 2:50 pm

Freakin' awesome trailer! Can't wait for that now! Thanks for posting it! (Off to show my brothers! :D)

    12. Maurice Mitchell on December 14, 2012 3:50 am

Glad you liked it Liesel. I'm showing it to everyone I know.

    13. Melissa Bradley on December 14, 2012 6:40 am

Reeve is the Superman of my heart and my childhood, but Henry Cavill looks as though he has taken the torch with strength and honor, imbuing the Man of Steel with his own indelible mark. This trailer brought to life the same emotion I remember when watching that first Superman film with Chris so very long ago. That's what has been missing for me with all of these superhero films. That sense of wonder, of something truly inspiring and not just a fun ride or a dark thriller. Snyder and Nolan have definitely created a work of art that will shine when it hits theaters and raise the bar for DC even higher.

    14. Maurice Mitchell on December 14, 2012 12:19 pm

You're right Melissa. I've never seen Cavillin anything except In Time, so I was skeptical. He definitely has Reeve's warmth. It will be a welcome compliment to the original.

    15. Tony Laplume on December 15, 2012 7:29 pm

It came close in the first half. The second half with the Lizard as a lizard was pretty much like the other Spider-Man movies.

    16. Natalya Ramirez on April 3, 2013 3:10 am

I must say I am really psyched about the movie. One of my favorite things about Superman 1 was the back story; the time with his parents, his struggles to cope with being less than ordinary while truly being so much more, the death of his father and his realization that as powerful as he was there were things he just couldn't do (well at least until the latter half of the film). This one seems to be starting out in the right direction as well; the film has a great cast, writer, producer and director and from the little that I have seen it seems to be more story than action driven
