Nichelle Nichols: I Could Have Been Spock [News]

In an interview, Nichelle Nichols dropped a surprise on Star Trek fans: she first read for the role of Spock.

Nichols recalls the day she was interviewed for this new television series called “Star Trek.”

“They gave me a three-page script to read from that had three
characters named Bones, Kirk and somebody called Spock, and they asked
me if I would read for the role of Spock. When I looked at this great
text, I said to myself, ‘I’ll take any one of these roles,’ but I found
the Spock character to be very interesting, and I asked them to tell me
    what she [Spock] was like.

That’s right, not only was Spock originally supposed to be a woman, but she would have been an African American woman. Obviously, the show would have been much different. We’ve created a conception of what she would have looked like.

How do you think a female Spock would have changed Star Trek?

Ok I knew this before but now that I think about it star trek would be waaaay different. This way Kirk and Spock could have a relationship without being gay. I hate it when people try to make them gay cause their bffs. Also I am in love with Spock so that would really change my life if he were a girl. I might have ended up like Kirk instead. Also I don't think McCoy would have argued with Spock so much. He seems to be nicer towards wemen. Plus what about those chicks always staring at Spock. They look like there about to hyperventilate. No man would ever have done that in public. Kirk and Spock might have ended up married! The possibiltys are endless!
