After decades of “what if” dreams and heated fandom debates, Superman and Spider-Man are officially teaming up again, and the first preview images already make this feel like the pop-culture event of 2026. DC and Marvel revealed the first look at Superman/Spider-Man #1, a historic one-shot hitting shelves on March 25, 2026, marking the duo’s first reunion in 50 years.

What the New Crossover Comic Reveals About the Story

The issue throws Clark Kent and Peter Parker into a breaking-news investigation that spirals into danger at the hands of Brainiac and Doctor Octopus, creating a villainous mash-up worthy of an anniversary event.

    Official description:
“When journalists Clark Kent and Peter Parker find themselves chasing the same story, the conspiracy they uncover could change the world—especially if Brainiac and Doctor Octopus have anything to say about it. (And we bet they do!) Good thing our intrepid newshounds are secretly Superman and the Amazing Spider-Man. To bring this clash of reporters-turned-heroes to life, Mark Waid and Jorge Jiménez join forces to headline DC’s Superman/Spider-Man #1 with an unforgettable lead story.”

This only shows the DC side of the crossover. Spider-Man/Superman #1, the Marvel part of the crossover, will release in April, and we expect equally outstanding artwork from celebrated artists.

When Superman/Spider-Man #1 Releases and Why It Matters

The release date—March 25, 2026—isn’t random. It lands almost exactly 50 years after their first team-up in 1976’s Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man, making this a full-circle moment for superhero history.

March 25, 2026: What Fans Should Expect on Launch Day

Fans should expect lines at comic shops, collectors grabbing every variant, and nonstop social buzz. This issue is built to be a moment.

This crossover isn’t just big—it’s stacked. Mark Waid is writing the main story with art from superstar Jorge Jiménez.

Bonus stories come from heavy hitters including Tom King, Gail Simone, Jim Lee, Matt Fraction, Christopher Priest, Sean Murphy, and more—making this one-shot feel like an anthology of A-list talent.

    • Tom King and Jim Lee have a story about Lois Lane and Mary Jane Watson.
    • Matt Fraction and Steve Lieber have one about Jimmy Olsen and Carnage.
    • Sean Murphy has a future tale with Superboy (Legion) and Spider-Man 2099.
    • Gail Simone and Belén Ortega did a story about Power Girl meeting Punisher.
    • Christopher Priest and Daniel Sampere have Superboy Prime “visit Spider-Man right after he got the black suit.”
    • Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott have a story about the Daily Planet and the Daily Bugle.
    • Jeff Lemire and Rafa Sandoval then have a story about Pa Kent or Uncle Ben.

Variant Covers From Jim Lee, Jorge Jiménez, and More

Fans and collectors are getting spoiled: the comic launches with 11 variant covers from industry titans.

How This Event Celebrates 50 Years of DC–Marvel Team-Ups

For newer readers, this crossover isn’t just a team-up—it’s a legacy moment that ties together decades of comic history.

From 1976 to 2026: A Quick History of the Crossover

To today’s comic book fans, the idea of crossover comics with Marvel and DC might seem like an outdated dream – but there was a time when books like Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man were released every year. Even though Marvel and DC have been rivals in comic shops and theaters for the past decade, they used to work together more easily, especially when it led to record sales for both.

The original 1976 issue, Superman Vs. The Amazing Spider-Man became a collector’s holy grail. Even now, the paperback is over $200 on Amazon. It was followed by 1981’s Superman & Spider-Man.

Since then, the relationship has cooled significantly, and nearly twenty years have passed since the last official crossover, 2003’s JLA/Avengers. However, with the entire comic book industry teetering on the edge of collapse in 2020 due to a global pandemic, calls for the two companies to reconcile and create another legendary mashup adventure to save the medium have grown louder.

Now, 50 years later, we’re getting a modern, prestige-level version built for today’s fandom.

What Makes This DC/Marvel Collaboration a Big Deal for Fans

Let’s be real: DC and Marvel barely collaborate anymore. That’s why this release feels like a mini-cinematic universe event on paper.

Why the Superman and Spider-Man Team-Up Still Resonates

They’re the most iconic superheroes in the world—one from Metropolis, one from Queens—and their chemistry (and contrast) makes every crossover feel special.

    Pre-Order Details for Superman/Spider-Man #1

Comic shops and online retailers have started opening pre-orders for both the standard edition and the full list of variants.

Where Collectors Can Buy the Standard and Variant Editions

Check your LCS (Local Comic Book Shop), Midtown Comics, Things From Another World, and digital stores like DC Universe Infinite Ultra and Marvel Unlimited (depending on release windows).

Final Thoughts on the Return of DC and Marvel Crossovers

This isn’t just another superhero book—it’s a celebration of two universes colliding in the best way. If it performs well (and let’s be honest, it will), this could open the door to more intercompany comics.

Will This Event Lead to More Intercompany Comics?

Fans are already hoping for a new Batman/Deadpool or X-Men / Justice League revival. If this issue explodes, anything is possible.

The release date for Superman/Spider-Man #1 is Wednesday, March 25, 2026. The retail price will be $7.99 US for the standard cover and $8.99 US for the cardstock variant covers.
