As summer comes to an end in many big cities, the worldwide box office had a rather languid weekend. Nevertheless, there was one significant new milestone and a few strong holds out there.

Here’s the breakdown of sci-fi and superhero movie box office this week.

    1. The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps dropped two spots to No. 6 in its sixth week, earning approximately $4.8 million. Its domestic total now stands at approximately $265.8 million, with a worldwide gross of around $506.3 million.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has struggled in 2025, with Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts both receiving mixed reviews and underperforming at the box office. However, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has managed to surpass both films, indicating potential for the MCU’s future.  In contrast, Thunderbolts* made $382.4 million worldwide, while Captain America: Brave New World made $415.1 million.

    2. Superman

Warner Bros.’ Superman dropped one spot to No. 8 in its eighth week, earning approximately $2.59 million. Its domestic total now stands at approximately $351.75 million, with a worldwide gross of around $607.6 million.

Fantastic Four has the number one spot at the box office right now, but it’s Superman that’s winning the year. James Gunn’s film, which debuted on PVOD platforms several weeks ago, has become one of Warner Bros’ 10 biggest hits and the fifth-biggest film based on a DC Comics character, providing validation for Gunn’s plans in the DC Universe.

    3. Jurassic World: Rebirth

Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World: Rebirth dipped two spots to No. 12 in its ninth week, earning around $1.47 million that frame. Its domestic total now stands at approximately $337.9 million, with an estimated worldwide haul of about $855.6 million.

Jurassic World Rebirth, a film that surpassed the $500 million mark in July and $700 million just four weeks ago, is now at $855 million worldwide, with a domestic and international split of $338 million and $517 million, respectively.

    4. Lilo & Stitch

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures’ Lilo & Stitch surged 18 spots to land at No. 14 in its 15th week, earning approximately $1.14 million that week and bringing its domestic total to about $422.95 million—while its worldwide gross has now climbed to roughly $1.034 billion.

Disney’s live-action film is set to surpass A Minecraft Movie at the domestic box office and become the highest-grossing film of the year. The movie, released alongside Mission: Impossible—The Final Reckoning, earned over $1 billion worldwide and is the second film of the year to earn over $400 million at the domestic box office.

    5. Together

Neon’s Together slipped three spots to No. 18 in its fifth week, earning approximately $182,490—bringing its domestic total to around $21.1 million and its worldwide gross to about $28.2 million.

The Sundance Film Festival premiered Together back in January, generating strong reviews and early access screenings. The film opened at $10.9 million, securing a No. 6 spot at the domestic box office.

    6. Elio

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures’ Elio slipped to No. 28 in its 11th week, earning about $24,000 that frame. Its domestic total now sits around $72.97 million, and its worldwide gross stands at approximately $152.0 million.

Last year, Pixar was saved by the record-breaking Inside Out 2. Elio has had the lowest opening in the studio’s history, falling short of the original Toy Story, which debuted three decades ago.
