For The First Time In A Decade Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Returns To Theaters

It’s true—go ninja, go ninja, go ninja. Fathom has revealed that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze would return to theatres in March 2026, following the surprise successful theatrical re-release of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action movie this past weekend.

Yes, Vanilla Ice will once more be performing “Ninja Rap” on the big screen.

    Watch the announcement video below:

Furthermore, Fathom is extending the original movie’s run until August 28. You can thus go back and see it this week if you were unable to see it in theatres last weekend. According to Fathom, the 1990 movie earned just over $3 million this past weekend, placing it at number eight at the domestic box office, ahead of F1: The Movie and Jurassic World Rebirth.

”The devoted fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise have shown up in droves with so much passion and enthusiasm in celebration of the iconic film’s 35th anniversary, Fathom Entertainment is thrilled to extend its theatrical run for a third time and add an additional full week in select theatres until August 28,” Ray Nutt, Fathom Entertainment’s Chief Executive Officer, said in a press release. “Even better, we have confirmed with our partners that Fathom is bringing back the 1991 sequel to the big screen in March 2026. With more than $3 million in box office revenues in the early days of its theatrical return engagement. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 35th Anniversary is currently the highest-grossing 2025 classic/repertory film for Fathom Entertainment.”

A lot of the franchise’s lore was mentioned in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze. Shredder (François Chau), the turtles’ fiercest adversary in the sequel, learns how the four brothers’ mutation occurred, making him incredibly dangerous because he can use the knowledge he has gained to do anything he pleases. Michael Pressman, who most recently directed episodes of popular shows including Chicago Med and Law & Order, directed the sequel.

The Turtles have appeared in eight feature films in theatres. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (1991), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993) are the first three live-action films made in the early 1990s. Created by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, the Turtles were portrayed by a variety of individuals wearing costumes with animatronic heads. 2007 saw the debut of a computer-animated movie.

In 2014, Platinum Dunes, Nickelodeon Films, and Paramount Pictures released a reboot, also called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In 2016, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, a follow-up, was released. As a follow-up to the animated series of the same name, Nickelodeon Movies released Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie in 2022. In 2023, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, a computer-animated reboot, was made available. This movie will be the first live-action Turtles movie to be released in theaters.

As an extremely old man who watched all three of the original Ninja Turtles films in theaters, the news about The Secret of the Ooze somewhat surpasses the original. But not in terms of which movie is superior. Obviously, the original film is exceptional. But Secret of the Ooze is unmatched in terms of camp and nostalgia alone. In addition to Vanilla Ice, there are Bebop, Rocksteady, Super-Shredder, and a ton of other awesome stuff.

The 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie will play in theaters for another week. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze will get a re-release in theaters in March 2026.

Visit FathomEntertainment.com to purchase tickets for the next re-release.
