1. The first Doctor Who DVD is Episode 7 “The Sensorites.” This is from the first season with William Hartnell. The Sensorites inspired the Ood in the recent series.

Synopsis: The Doctor, Ian, Barbara and Susan land on a spaceship orbiting a
distant and mysterious world, where a human crew lies frozen somewhere
between life and death. The planet is the Sense-Sphere, home of the
Sensorites, beings of immense intelligence and power. Unable to leave,
the Doctor and his companions must deduce the Sensorites’ intentions:
are they friendly, hostile, or frightened? And what is the deadly secret
at the heart of the Sense-Sphere?

2. The second Doctor Who DVD is a special edition of  “The Caves of Androzani” starring the fifth Doctor, Peter Davidson. There are a lot of really good special features on this one. This was Peter Davison’s last regular appearance as the Doctor, and the first appearance of Colin Baker.

3. For all you anime fans (April!) we have the television series Chrome Shelled Regios based on a book series in Japan (鋼殻のレギオス Kōkaku no Regiosu).

The world of tomorrow is an arid wasteland, a forsaken place where
nomadic communities take shelter within mobile domed cities. Massive,
mutant Contaminoid monsters swarm the planet’s desolate surface, and the
lack of resources fuels constant conflict between cities.

In this
bleak future, mysterious young Layfon struggles to escape his violent
past. Unfortunately, his former life might be impossible to hide after
he’s forced to enroll at the military academy – his special powers are
clearly stronger than those of his comrades. As he joins his fellow
student soldiers in the desperate battle against the Contaminoid
scourge, Layfon must fight to keep the origins of his enhanced abilities
a secret – because the truth could tear his team apart. 

Sounds pretty cool. I watched some of it on Hulu and it’s pretty sweet.

4. If you loved Short Circuit and Short Circuit 2 then you’ll be happy to know they finally got ’em in a two-pack. The movies tell the story of “Johnny 5,” a military robot is given intelligence when it’s hit by lightning. The first film follows him when the military is chasing him and the sequel takes him to New York. I thought these films were great when I was a kid, but I haven’t seen them in years.

5. Here’s a blast from the past. Back in 1990 the TV show They Came From Outer Space starred two alien college students, named Bo and Abe (Stuart Fratkin), that drive a red corvette searching for hot women in California. Think Porky’s from outer space. This might be fun if you like that kind of thing. Watch clips on Hulu to find out.
