Some comic books are about world-ending events. Some feature daring supervillains. Some comics have people talking and sharing feelings. That’s what this comic is about.
The spotlight in this story shifts from Moon Knight (Marc Spector) to Tigra (Greer Nelson).
The story follows Spector having a movie night with Nelson and her son William. He’s wearing a mask and insists on talking about people he’s killed. Tigra is trying to shift the conversation to a new version of an old supervillain of Moon Knight. Midnight Man has returned. Marc blows her off. But she keeps digging and makes a shocking discovery that shakes her to the core.
Jed MacKay is doing a great job handling the Moon Knight stories. This is another example of a story that starts out simple and gets more complex as the story develops. A vulnerable conversation between friends changes your perspective on the whole story. The book has numerous little moments that ring true.
Tigra uses videotapes of old movies because that’s what her parents did. Greer talks to Hawkeye about Midnight Man III because she can’t talk to Marc. She’s hiding her son’s real father’s fate. Should she tell him his father isn’t Giant Man (Hank Pym) but a shape-shifting Skrull?
Times are changing but old issues keep coming back up and she’s wondering who to trust. Will things ever change?
The Midnight Man’s reveal might not shock you but the conversation it evokes steals the show. Artist Alessandro Cappuccio, colorist Rachelle Rosenberg, and letterer Cory Petit are a big reason this comic is hard to beat. Tigra has worked wonders to make Moon Knight feel like a human being, and now it’s time for her to shine.
